On March 3, 2024, the hardcopy of the Medikka Journal 2024. Today, I'm proud to announce that it has been launched online. The theme of the journal was focused on plastic surgery, and especially the actual nature of practice in Nigeria. medikkajournal.us/medikka-journa…

It's even worse in children. You'll see hematologic malignancies, and cause of th B symptoms, they'll be treating malaria and typhoid for months to years before presentation at a late stage. Someone will soon say is it not just fever o. It's well.
Holy ground@themindofJoshC

I'll still say it again. The very bad cases we see in A/E everyday patronise chemists and pharmacies for weeks without referral until it's terminal. It's funny because alot times they're with unrecognised full blown feature. We only get to hear cases of mismanagement and...

Only doctors are supposed to be nice, courteous & teach others on twitter. Other HCWs can quote, belittle, insult or be condescending to us as much as possible but yeah we're just expected to be as nice as possible & non-condescending. Lol 😂 Did that person need to quote him?
Laureen@OkorochaLaureen

There were so many ways aproko doctor's tweet would have gone today where people would have actually learnt that didn't involve belittling and insults in the name of knowledge gap. Everybody just dey fight since morning. The layman sef learnt nothing

Anytime you feel the insane urge to engage with or exchange words with hafaz mls, nurain aladewhatever, tobymd, aquasomebody or any other raging lunatic on this app, just DM me let's do a meta analysis or literature review or plan a study. That's a more efficient use of our time

This is why we must do our best to address the misinformation, especially online, even when it looks like we're battling allied medical personnel. The more we shy away, the stronger these barriers are. It's well.
Olaoluwa!@oc_olorunfemi

All things considered in Nigeria, the patient-facing part is probably the smallest part of the health system problems. For every one that has actually entered a doctor’s consultation room, five have spoken to other “people” saying otherwise.

The core issue is that many non clinician HCWs treat clinical diagnosis like a linear checklist. B/c they have been superficially involved in executing a treatment or running a test, they falsely believe they understand the cognitive engine driving those decisions. When issues arise around clinical judgement that are simple, because of this prevalent problem, you'll find people teaching the foundational mechanics of the diagnostic process and explaining the massive intellectual leap b/w a probabilistic differential & a definitive diagnosis. You eventually realize that the thousands of hours of training that built your clinical intuition cannot be explained on a timeline to someone already high on Dunning-Kruger tea. This is precisely why everyone should stay within their established area of expertise. It is a profound systemic failure that the world is turning excellent allied medical professionals into dangerously under-trained clinicians. They are drowning in a sea of clinical ambiguity they have’t been equipped to navigate, mistaking protocol compliance for true diagnostic proficiency.

Patients are also reading these interactions. The next time a doctor tells a patient to do one, they'll remember this tweet and respond as if the doctor doesn't know his job. Anyhow sha, doctors request all necessary investigations and document as usual. Good luck to everyone.

They also encourage positive healthcare behavior and early presentation to improve health outcomes. It doesn't mean that they should be pleased with seeing patients with no symptoms who want drugs because they haven't used their HMO this year. Let's be real, abeg.

So because care is unaffordable, a doctor should be happy when a mother brings her 4 children on a Sunday afternoon to treat malaria with no symptoms because they're going back to school. Okay. Doctors encourage patients to subscribe to health insurance, to make things easier.
Oluwasusi@NrOluwasusi

I think there is cognitive dissonance somewhere. You complain about patients not being able to afford care and also complain about those with HMO coming for care. Lmaoo. Even if it’s for headache.
