Hi I'm Hannah and I started my PhD in October 2021 as part of the Space Plasma Physics group at Lancaster University 🌌. My current focus is Ionospheric Outflow at Jupiter via 1D modelling. My DMs are always open if you have any questions or just want to say hi.

My temperatures are currently dropping with each iteration for the first grid point. Can't seem to pinpoint exactly why this is happening.

Having fun today turning variables on and off in my model to see how much impact they have on Jupiter's temperature.

I'm still working on my model, I've presented a talk now at an RAS specialist meeting and I'm just ironing out some kinks in the code so I can maybe write a paper??? We shall see.

It's been a while since I actually posted anything of note so here's a cat picture.

It's been a busy few months, and when it hasn't, been worried about buying more furniture because we've had to move house so often recently it's been like 'do we really want to get more' and also uh, cost of living?

Since we moved in at the end of April we've just kinda dumped everything we didn't have places for (we don't have a lot of furniture) in the space room/office) and we've just not got round to dealing with it really. It's not a mess, there's not a lot of boxes, it's just empty.

Finally got around to sorting my office space out at home. Isn't done yet, but I've found all my stationery and things to make a start on making the space feel less empty. I want to be able to have a space to work from home comfortably even if it's not my general preference.

Like okay yeah my PhD isn't me just taking days off whenever I want, but I have that freedom to stay home and take a more chill day if I need to, I've just got to work on the feeling guilty part because I know I'll catch up on the work.

The system we live in has taught us that we're supposed to work unless we're like, physically unable to get to work. I'm grateful that managing my own work means I can take time off if I'm not feeling great, but I'll still feel guilty about it bc of how I was raised

It's hard sometimes to remind myself that I'm allowed to take a day off if I'm not doing great.

Haha love life. Avoid COVID-19 until now, go back to Doncaster to cat sit and look after my mum's garden and now I have COVID-19. Got a conference coming up too, which I'll probably be clear for since its two weeks off but my poster isn't ready yet 😭

I love travelling via train (I can't drive, plus owning a car is pretty expensive these days). Shit has been a hot mess these past couple of years, lots of issues with overcrowding but I know that's companies overselling tickets etc. Just pay your workers properly ffs #railstrike

Travelling during strike week is not ideal, but there's places I need to be. I'm not gonna complain about any issues today though because fuck the companies that are the reason this needs to happen. Best of luck to the workers striking this week #railstrike
