I find it frustrating when folks sum up 🇸🇴’s issues as being due to tribalism. Although it is a problem that needs addressing, it itself is a byproduct of a an even bigger issue which is a lack of genuine reconciliation. The brother beautifully sums up the solution below

The solution lies with sincere selfless scholars & individuals who can rally the people & gain their support, just like the ICU (despite their shortcomings). Nobody will save us except ourselves.

I sat with Sheikh Hassan Daher Aweys for an interview on his personal history. On two consecutive evenings, I recorded his life and times (education, experiences, memories, milestones, reflections and turning points). Since June 2013, Sheikh Hassan has been under a house arrest.

جhadi Madkhalism summed up: ❝If you find a scholar in a group who, whenever they land into trouble, acts as their advocate in disputes, then he is a scholar of the palace. And if you find a mujahid defending his group, in truth & falsehood, then he is a slave of a tyrant.❞

The average Somali (from any background) outside their areas hates them, while those living in their areas fear them & see no viable alternative (this is even held by some AS members). I dont subscribe to the view that AS are a foreign project, but I can see why some think that.

This is what AS fear the most, an Islamic group that the people will rally around, who spread justice & practice shura. This is why they outlawed the formation of ANY group -armed or non-armed-, and they'll fight & crush this group before they do the occupiers & their puppets.

Every honourable Muslim would resist ḍhulm. If I was a Somali, I would've probably joined a Sunnī militia supported by the local cleric and fought FGS. But then again, al-Shabāb's main policy is to violently suppress the organic rise of Sunnī resistance groups across Somalia.

@ibraoferie (Re)Read their bayan. They disassociated themselves (possibly with some pressure & influence from Abu Khalid), but it was too late anyway.

I previously mentioned there’s no difference between AS & IS save in some particulars perhaps. There’s no need to repeat anything, I’ll just mention one incident that happened at the peak of the AQ vs IS feud: Several groups of AS fighters were gathered for a shar’i course…
Thomas levin@Trevar11

One might ask why IS and AS have issues if their ideology is almost exactly the same IS has a zero tolerance policy on AQ affiliates since the Syrian issue and actively seeks to undermine them AS have always been operationally independent from AQ and do whatever they want

@Trevar11 That’s correct, if they saw any benefit in it they would’ve pledged, but they were aware that this meant concession of operational freedom & a change in structure and leadership. People underestimate AS, they’re more “Machiavellian” than Jawlani.

@__khlld I believe if AS were in a weaker position at the time they would have no issue on giving bay’ah to dawla But to they it didn’t make sense to give up their freedom and clout for less operational freedom and concessions

@Muhareb__ Then you will see him donning the filthy garments of the Frankish infidels, boasting of those clothes and wretched tatters. He is a Kafir who is utterly infatuated with the Franks, having forsaken his faith for their sake.

What’s mind boggling is how confidently AQ & its partisans label IS as khawarij/ghulat, yet shy way from labelling AS such. Despite both (AS & IS) being identical, one can at least somewhat respect IS for its consistency, while AQ is riddled with inconsistency & confusion.

…Never disown them, even if they don’t adhere to AQ’s policies, guidelines or share the same ideology. AS however can break free from AQ anytime they wish, they literally have nothing to gain from them (or lose for that matter) & have exploited them to the fullest extent.
