Was at a dinner in SF when I overheard a big tech engineer say he was just laid off. 5 minutes in, someone at the next table patted his shoulder, and said: “Same. My manager said AI took my job.” It's happening. CS used to be a golden ticket. Now it ranks 7th among US college majors with highest unemployment. Meanwhile, Meta and OpenAI are paying $$$ for AI talent. I love this line from @signulll: “The penalty for being average has never been so severe, but the payout for being extraordinary has never been higher.”
