I ran an experiment: Spent $20k on Facebook ads and $20k on cold email. Here's what happened:

That’s love brotha. I think bigger issue is bad offers & bad players in the space driven by your 3 points below, rather than “tam coverage” in a vacuum. Reality is when you approach TAM coverage like advertising, CPM’s are very low. I can send 10k emails/mo for ~15/mo at a $1.50 CPM. Say even 5% get viewed, that’s a $30 CPM, compared to 50-100 on Meta. If you have a good offer, it just makes sense. If you don’t, it doesn’t matter how cheap the CPM’s are - it just won’t work. Ultimately I think it would be good for the space if it was 10x harder or 5x more expensive to operate across the board.

Cold email has become a race to the bottom with the level of slop and low level people pushing it. just like how google and MS heavily penalized custom mailservers for spam, I can see it coming for Google and Microsoft mailboxes too.

@Hybridathlete @Brady_H Yes. He also was doing like 60-70mpw when he ran a ~2:53 (I think?). Not hating whatsoever but a bit of a stretch on the glaze here

Sahil might be the only guy I know who could go out and run a sub-3 marathon on a random weekend despite running like, once per week. 😄
Sahil Bloom@SahilBloom

@Brady_H Crazy fit. Easy smooth 20 today and now itching to just send it on a track for a sub-3 marathon 🤣

@AlexHartsuff Agreed this is why I never ask “what’s your monthly revenue” on application forms. Sends a negative signal. Only ask annual.

It's fun to look at your leverage: > my sales rep ripping sales call with full calendar > paid ads & cold email booking more meetings on autopilot > campaign managers reviewing & tweaking campaigns, coordinating with clients > GTM Engineers building cracked workflows with Clay & claude code > Inbox manager & AI replying to leads and booking meetings

@AlexHartsuff i am testing a version of this. running cold email + ads to same audience. However my expectation is that running broad is just the move. getting a complete list of your audience (especially from apollo) is much harder in practice

Has anybody tried just exporting a CSV of your target audience from Apollo and running ads to them with 100% restrictions I always thought about it but never tried

@_agarner A real podcaster would save it for the podcast, maybe I will. Maybe I’m not a real podcaster.

@vascoabm @stripe super annoying but this isn't a Stripe issue. Them building features like Smart Dispute are to support their customers, but they don't have any authority power w chargebacks

I’ve been on about a dozen consulting calls over the past couple weeks and this is starting to piss me off so I’m giving you a homework assignment: I want you to go through: - every ad that you’re running that’s getting spend - any VSL you’re running - any advertorial, listicle, hybrid page, etc. that you’re running - your PDP bullets And I want you to go to the part where you reveal your unique problem mechanism and your unique solution mechanism. I want you to imagine that you’re at a bar talking to someone who models one of your personas. They have the problem you’re trying to solve, they’ve tried the other solutions I’m sure you’ve mentioned in your copy. I want you to read your mechanistic copy out loud to this person.… And I want you to genuinely contemplate if your argument has enough logical justification to instill an “aha!” moment strong enough to convince this person of your message. - how well did you distill the “core reason why” the problem exists into a single concept that a 10 year old could understand? - how strong of an understanding of their sophistication level do you have and how logically did explain why the solutions they’ve tried in the past failed? - how well did you reveal each force of nature behind your USM to overcome surface- level scrutiny? - how well you using analogies to make the complex concepts in your USM “click? NOTE: These aren’t binary questions. I want you to grade yourself. Here’s a link to the mechanism reveal section of a VSL you can use as a rough guideline: docs.google.com/document/d/1gq… You need to understand that when done correctly, your mechanism can literally carry your entire campaign. Why is why I’m going to so in depth on mechanisms in my program with things like justifier loops, enemy identification, etc. Because if you truly want to build a bulletproof sales argument (which is all that copywriting is when you boil it down), your mechanism is make or break.
