@TheKrothRoads I'll never tire to say that the real issue is the automation of this system, not the system itself. Drivers need to be in full control of the power output. They're scared teams could use it for traction control, but honestly that's better than it randomly cutting off.

@hi3ut This is what they're complaining about, and what's making these look more like "this lap i got you, next lap you get me". But look ahead on the field. It's still not perfect, but the Mercs/Ferraris are racing. Old style racing, because they can defend more effectively.

@hi3ut How is this different from DRS overtaking, though? At least the driver ahead CAN use the same boost to defend. The issue here is that some PUs are just not optimised yet, and the even bigger issue is that drivers cannot MANUALLY control how much of that boost they want to use

Alonso, Sainz, Lawson all called out these "overtakes" saying this isn't racing. So no, the energy deployment issue of these regs even just on the overtaking aspect is a big deal actually. And I don't know why some people are obsessed with the idea that everyone must want as many

I know this place doesn't do nuance, and while I'm a genuine hater of these regs, one needs to acknowledge two things: 1) calling out two drivers who displayed "old style" racing EVEN under these regs is... cheap, and 2) there was no racing whatsoever last year in Suzuka.

@hi3ut The safety concern is in the automation of this system, which Leclerc has been extremely vocal about. It does cost them more time in qualifying, but it can be dangerous when the driver doesn't realise they have used up all of it already (like Colapinto today).

@daneto22 @hi3ut Your memory is pretty flawed, he only said that in regards to the overtake mode replacing DRS, he thinks it's more effective because the car defending has better chances of actually doing so. Which is true. He has absolutely brought up issue with automated energy deployment.

@hi3ut He wouldn't change the power boost/overtake mode (in lieu of DRS), not the energy deployment that causes the safety concerns he's addressed in the same breath. You can't just pick one quote out of context and act like he's never said anything else.

@_allthatglitz Leclerc literally said "in the race I wouldn't change much". I don't see how that could mean "the software thing is actually a big issue that is also reflected in the overtaking and racing aspects". And I can't agree with that, at all

@daneto22 @hi3ut He's not ignoring that, in fact he's been pretty vocal about the issues they're experiencing so I genuinely don't know why you're acting like he doesn't care for safety or he's super happy with the racing under these regs. He just said he enjoyed pulling moves around the track.

@_allthatglitz @hi3ut Thats not the point. Charles will be good at this regardless. Ignoring the issues in the racing aspect, including the safety concerns is the point. Wanting to keep the symptom regardless of what it brings its the point.

@hi3ut So, with this in mind, understand that when drivers complain about "deployment", they are in fact complaining about how it affects racing as well as qualifying. If LEC or HAM say "that was a good fight", they're not discounting the issues brought by these regs.

@hi3ut Before you go and make more (wrong) assumptions about my thoughts on these regs, please make the effort to actually read what you're replying to. The overtaking is a symptom, not THE issue. However, "real" racing is still very much a thing under these regs.
