India is closing down a Vande Bharat route due to low passenger bookings. This is just disheartening. China has made 50,000 kms of High Speed Railway (HSR) network & they plan to extend that upto 70,000 kms till 2035. Why? Because they want to bring HSR to every town with 5 lac population. Is that profitable? Yes & No. Chinese Railway has now the debt of $870 billions. Staggering amount. But, if you are a country of 140 crore people, that is how you have to think about development. In massive numbers. You cannot keep citizens away from basic necessities. On the other hand, Vande Bharat is mediocre and not even HSR. Just a better made train. Why would you even think that closing down is an option?! Maybe reduce coaches at most. Some solutions- -Think about increasing the speed so it can actually save time. -Give better food quality. -control prices to make it look attractive. -do away with stupidity of surge pricing. -cleaner washrooms & fines for misuse. -tourist circuit discounts on group tickets. But, Babudom will not think of all that. They are now auditing 3 more Vande Bharat trains to decide if they are to be closed down or not. Why are we going in reverse direction? Cannot we take a bit of losses? Imagine if this was a business venture, do you not give it some time to prosper and find ROI? We have such defeatist mindset. It is awful.
