a lot of my issue particularly lies in the fact that if OP wanted to say that disabled children shouldn’t be treated like accessories, they could have just said that. or if they wanted to say we shouldn’t make disabled children do activities they don’t want to do, just say that.

@_bIurryface there is a girl in my middle school who is 100% paralyzed and has the mental capacity of someone who is 10ish,,, we all still include her because she is a person. she enjoys diamond paintings and her mom says she hopes she gets to go to prom one day. i dont get people like this😭

@h0rse4ever to be clear this was cheerleading for disabled girls, everyone of all abilities and cognition could join. if you could you were able to be on the competition squad.

@h0rse4ever i know there is i have been around both kinds of children lmao i was on a cheerleading squad with a girl who was very profoundly intellectually disabled. she did not attend competitions because the lights were too much but she did attend practices and we just pushed her around.

@_bIurryface things should be accessible to most people, i just think we should be more considerate about who needs those things to be accessible in the first place

@h0rse4ever it really fucking sucks that we as a society can’t help these kids more. i hate that parents tote them around and i hate that it seems as if it’s just pure misery but it is so frustrating to see people just jump to conclusions about every single kid ever.

@h0rse4ever it made her happy. if she was barred from the cheerleading squad she wouldn’t have gotten to experience that. she started showing signs of response to people closer to her age because she had only been around adults. i’ve been around a lot of people just like her.

@h0rse4ever and we can’t just go around saying “not everything needs to be accessible” about it because then it starts barring children who have the agency and do want to participate and do get enjoyment out of it. it turns into a giant snowball effect.

@h0rse4ever i think that if the event is too stressful/unsafe for them to participate then they should obviously be taken out. parents are terrible with their kids disabled or not and putting them into stressful activities for selfish reasons. but there are times where that’s not the case
