Could sleep apnea in women be getting missed? In honor of Sleep Awareness Week, we’re revisiting Episode 182: Understanding OSA in Women with Dr. Megan Durr. Hormonal changes during pregnancy and menopause can influence obstructive sleep apnea, and women often present with different symptoms than the classic signs seen in men. From fatigue and insomnia to mood changes and fragmented sleep, recognizing these patterns is key to earlier diagnosis and better care. #ENT182 #OSA #sleep #sleepapnea #sleepawarenessmonth

With a post-op bleeding rate of just 0.5%, Dr. Stephen Chorney says that conversation around tonsillectomy complications looks very different with an intracapsular approach. Because he avoids the capsule, the bleeds he encounters are typically slow and manageable, not the kind of active hemorrhage that feels emergent. That experience even gives him confidence not to routinely stop antiplatelet or anticoagulant medications, knowing the bleeding profile tends to be much more controlled. Dr. Stephen Chorney shares why he now only performs intracapsular tonsillectomy technique, including patients with sleep disordered breathing, PANDAS, PFAPA, and other infectious indications. Even though a small amount of tonsil tissue may remain, he is confident the infection is fully treated and still sends tissue biopsy when needed. For him, it comes down to recovery, strong outcomes, and a technique he trusts for everything from chronic infections to tonsil stones. When parents come in worried about tonsil surgery, Dr. Stephen Chorney meets them with a clear explanation of his intracapsular approach. He shares that he dissolved the tonsil tissue without entering the capsule where larger vessels and nerves sit, which supports a smoother recovery and helps families feel more comfortable moving forward. He is transparent about the slightly higher risk of regrowth, but in his experience he rarely sees significant tissue return and believes outcomes meet or exceed traditional techniques. Happy Sleep Awareness Month! At BackTable ENT, sleep surgery is a hot topic because healthy sleep affects far more than just how rested you feel. Untreated sleep apnea is linked to serious health risks including type 2 diabetes, stroke, hypertension, and cardiovascular disease. This month, we’re highlighting some of our most popular BackTable ENT episodes on obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). They cover diagnosis, surgical decision-making, airway evaluation, and the multidisciplinary management of sleep-disordered breathing. Check them out to learn how experts are approaching one of the most common (and impactful) conditions in ENT. #SleepAwarenessMonth #SleepApnea #SleepSurgery #ENT #BackTableENT

Recurrent Respiratory Papillomatosis has long meant repeat surgeries, sometimes dozens over a lifetime. In #ENT263, Dr. Aaron Friedman and Dr. Stephen Schoeff discuss the shift toward immune-directed therapy following FDA approval of PAPZIMEOS from Precigen. In trials, almost 50% of adults avoided additional surgery for a year. Check it out below! #RRP @Drinnahusain @amerati @gwebbharris Listen now: na2.hubs.ly/H042-jM0

Only 7–10% of patients who qualify for #CochlearImplants actually receive one. Why are so many older adults missing out on life-changing hearing care? On #ENT261, Guest hosts Dr. Joe Walter Kutz and Dr. Brandon Isaacson sit down with Dr. Cameron Wick of University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center to break down barriers to referral, updated Medicare guidelines, and what the data really shows for patients in their 80s and 90s. @ear_wick @UTSWENT @2012_marim @otolaryngolivia na2.hubs.ly/H03Lx-q0

Dr. McCusker explains his post-op protocol for OSA patients, including questionnaires at 6-8 weeks and using nasal rinses and bactroban to manage crusting after surgery. He notes that while weight loss medications can sometimes help if issues persist after nasal surgery or Inspire implant, most patients naturally see weight loss once their sleep improves with the implant. Can treating the nose really move the needle in sleep apnea care? Dr. McCusker shares how addressing nasal obstruction, often with VivAer, can drop Epworth Sleepiness Scale scores by 5 to 6 points, a change comparable to dedicated sleep surgery. Treating the nose also improves CPAP tolerance and Inspire outcomes by lowering needed voltages, making it easier to reach therapeutic settings, and producing more high-quality sleep data. Can treating chronic rhinitis actually improve sleep in patients with OSA? Dr. McCusker explains why many CR patients struggle with CPAP and how procedures like RhinAer can help stabilize their symptoms and improve sleep quality. He also shares why he prefers to treat both the turbinates and swell bodies with VivAer in the OR, rather than addressing swell bodies alone, to achieve the best long-term results.
