Description of the few minutes of THE ODYSSEY shown at #CinemaCon The footage opens with Matt Damon's Odysseus asking Charlize Theron's Calypso how long he's been on her island. "A long time," she responds. Odysseus laments that he doesn't know how old his son, Telemachus (played by Tom Holland), would now be. A flashback shows Telemachus pulled aside by Jon Bernthal's Menelaus, asking if he's heard "the story of the (Trojan) horse" and if he heard it "from the inside." We then flashback *again* (Nolan nesting framing devices inside framing devices) to see a sequence involving the Trojan Horse being brought into Troy. A soldier is stabbed when soldiers check to see of the horse is occupied, and his mouth is covered to keep him from screaming. Odysseus then leads men stealthily out of the Trojan Horse in a dark nighttime sequence. Ludwig Göransson's score really starts to pick up at this point — intense, percussive and raising in pitch. A Trojan soldier sounds the alarm as Odysseus' men make their way to open the city's gates. Menelaus knocks an arrow as Trojan soldiers approach, and Odysseus begins picking them off via bow and spear. The Trojan soldiers started rapidly amassing as the men struggle to open the gates. When they finally open the gates, an army waits on the other side, storming into Troy. Among the crowd is Agamemnon (Benny Safdie), Menelaus' brother who towers among the crowd. We cut back to Menelaus talking to Telemachus as he says, "I think you now the rest." The footage then flashes quickly through various scenes, including Odysseus' shipwreck. The very end of the footage sees the hand of the cyclops Polyphemus reaching toward Odysseus as he grasps one of the other soldiers. The soldier is quickly snatched back and killed by Polyphemus, who is covered in shadows. The man is heard screaming for several seconds — it's brutal.
