Improved governance would require separation of power and non-interference in the working of different arms of the government. It requires a balance of power. RN, this balance is heavily tilted and not in favor of the politicians.

Pakistan will only progress with reforms which improve governance and accountability. The current political system has been hijacked by the powerful and the rich through constituency based politics. I suggest the following reforms: 1. Proportional representation with local bodies. 2. Direct elections of PM and CMs; abolish President and Governors positions. 3. Separate legislative and executive functions. Parliamentarians should not be in executive positions. Finish their incentive to make money and exert political influence. 4. Divide Pakistan in to administratively manageable units. All units to have directly elected CMs. 5. Senate should be directly elected. 6. Term of parliament and political office should be 4 years. 7. Size of govt should be reduced to 1/3 with merger of various ministries. Minimise regulatory agencies. Bureaucrats With unsatisfactory performance must be forcibly retired after grade 18 (just as army retires after Major/Colonel) and lateral entry of technocrats to be allowed. 8. Extensive judicial reforms for speedy justice. This is not an exhaustive list. Just an indication of what needs to be done to have a good system of governance in place. Obviously this requires change in the constitution.

A good initiative indeed. But first, let's strive for an empowered, responsible, and accountable government at the national and provincial level!

The journey for empowered local governments in Pakistan took another step with the first parliamentary consultation on a draft constitutional amendment bill submitted by @DehleezLG to strengthen Article 140A; organized by the @SecretariatSDGs at the @NAofPakistan. (1/6)

Land development for housing remains a scam in Pakistan because regulators and administrators benefit from this approach, with free plots to the powerful. In turn, the gifting of plots leads to the capture of regulation and agencies of governance. #Pakistan #Islamabad

Of the 200 housing societies in Islamabad, only 22 are legal & 140 have never approached @CDAthecapital for necessary approval. Housing societies & land development largely remain a scan in Pakistan. Why? Read @nadeemhaque published in today's @dawn_com dawn.com/news/1711924/h…

No one questions these societies since every state organ has skin in the game. For decades, they have used the cooperative society law to acquire precious land for their benefit. #Islamabad

Islamabad needs a paid parking system. And get rid of the car dealer mafia. It's another kind of qabza mafia. And Pakistani cities need mass-transit to reduce car use/dependence.
Ibad@IbadinIslamabad

#CarParking is big problem in @Islaamabad. Especially in office areas like Blue Area. WRONG solution of city manager @CDAthecapital to make parking plazas. One is under construction next to Savor Foods by @NLC_Official_. Need public transport! @navift @durre_nayab_ @_ellehasan
