#socraticmse the sad reality is that a lot of people will put the blame on women for getting catcalled for what they wear because they “want attention” from men
#socraticmse going back to the point of the power dynamic present in catcalling, it’s messed up how men will only catcall if a woman is alone but it’s likely it won’t happen if a woman was walking with another man because of the way that a single woman is seen as powerless
when only certain groups in society have access to power it seems to be nature that having that privilege becomes abused because it's like a pedestal of being above everyone else #socraticmse
the segregation and distribution of power between the class levels seems connected with the divide in our society between certain minorities not being able to access the same services/opportunities #socraticmse
traditionally, crying as a way to show emotion has been marked as weak. however, people are starting to see the ability to cry as the opposite -- being strong. it's really the way you perceive it. #socraticmse
men are stuck in this cycle: rejected from being able to show emotions, leading to the difficulty of being able to express their feelings and to seek help from others. #socraticmse
The primary way to combat racism is for individuals to start and create changes within themselves. For those who aren't willing to be open-minded and being uncomfortable with this topic, it's difficult for them to change and listen to other voices #socraticmse
Individuals aren't born with racism engraved behind their beliefs -- racism occurs in our society because it was taught to individuals, so it's important to start with younger generations to educate them on accepting all individuals in society. #socraticmse
government regulation can be necessary in certain situations but there's always an extent -- the major issue is when the government doesn't allow for any freedom choice #socraticmse
I feel like it's inevitable for bias not to be present when textbooks are written -- any country would want to teach and show the best parts of their history, but it's important to remain more neutral in teaching so people can make judgements for themselves. #socraticmse
@RichaVakharia21 Exactly -- the problem is that using a gun has come to be an officer's first resort and this shows how the police system can be improved to find other solutions in these type of situations #socraticmse
#socraticmse Shooting someone armed right away is not justified because the police are TRAINED to deescalate the situation. They just choose not to and make up a story when there was another way to deal with someone scared or frustrated.
Black poc can automatically be stereotyped with involvement in a crime simply for the fact that they are black and it's a huge problem. I feel like it's almost rooted in the subconscious mind to come to this conclusion. Will this racism ever truly change? #socraticmse
There's always a time and place to use violence as the answer. In response to the topic of gun violence, guns should only be used as defense when absolutely necessary. Showing up to a peaceful protest with a gun is crossing that line. #socraticmse
Violence often occurs for the intention to prove yourself/your standpoint, but I don't think it should be the solution to resort to. In certain situations, you can more effectively voice your opinions without the need for violence. #socraticmse
