One problem of DSA factionalism is that mutually compatible ideas often get needlessly counterposed Why can't we do chapter deliberations on a 2028 presidential endorsement AND allow a nationwide membership poll? Haven't heard a strong argument about why we can't do both, that's why I signed this

I love donating to anti-establishment electoral campaigns, but once they're in office it really sends the wrong message to mostly ask for our money instead of our time and commitment!

no matter who our DSA candidate is, we can't afford to sit out the Democratic presidential primary again, doing so was a disaster in 2024, marginalizing our ideas and facilitating Harris' pivot to "the center". far from a danger to defeating Trumpism, building our forces via a primary run and thereby pushing the Dems to break from unpopular pro-corporate, pro-Israel policies is the broader anti-Trump bloc's best bet for electoral success

i don't think a lack of clear path to victory means a non-AOC presidential candidate would be pointless; we'd grow the org and keep our issues (M4A, arms embargo, etc.) center stage and we could frame the strategy as ensuring the Dems adopt these demands if they want our members to vote for them in the general

one thing DSA's electoral momentum underscores is that we need to line up another socialist candidate for president if AOC decides not to run

A question for @briebriejoy and co: if you're the most consistent fighters against the Democratic Party establishment, then why does your proposed strategy — socialists should form a new third party — now *dovetail* with so much of that same establishment?

in terms of strategy, working autonomously within the Democratic Party is a huge advance for the US Left in terms of spam, it's a huge step backwards

most annoying thing about running and donating to anti-establishment insurgents on the Democratic ballot line: somehow this also results in getting endless text/email fundraising spam from Democratic hacks

One of Zohran's best innovations is how consistently he challenges neoliberals on their own grounds Instead of debating the merits of capitalism vs socialism in the abstract, he doubles down on socialists' ability to deliver more tangible benefits to ordinary people And rather than dispute their emphasis on efficiency, he shows that democratic socialists are *more* committed to efficient governance, because we actually want excellent public services.
