💢 IRAQ | Baghdad clears PMF to defend itself after deadly strike on militia HQ Iraq’s National Security Council has authorized the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) to respond to U.S. attacks under the right to self-defense, according to Mehr News. The decision follows airstrikes on a PMF command headquarters in Anbar province in western Iraq, killing at least 15 fighters, including senior commander Saad al-Baiji, and wounding about 30, according to the group. The PMF, a state-backed network of militias integrated into Iraq’s security forces, accused the U.S. of carrying out the strike. It came a day after a reported 24-hour ceasefire between U.S. forces and Iraqi resistance factions. The prime minister’s office said Iraq will summon the U.S. chargé d’affaires in protest, calling the strike a breach of sovereignty.
