You can tell Western fiction has rotted people's brains because we treat every depiction of something as advocacy for that thing. We act as if media is always trying to lecture us because that's what our media does. Anime isn't christpilled, but it's also almost never a lecture. Gay relationships in anime are almost never depicted in the rosy, uncomplicated way that they are in Western media, and Japanese people have a much more developed and sensible view of fiction than we do in the first place. Pride month, for instance, really isn't a thing over there outside of Western NGOs trying to astroturf it. They are much better at living in reality and keeping fiction separate from it than we are, and so they don't have the social contagion of LARPing that Being Gay is somehow cool or brave or whatever. Conservatives totally bought into the framing that fiction and storytelling always have to be lectures for the audience, as if we can't just imagine something for the excitement of it and keep it separate from reality. That's where the "anime is christpilled" nonsense came from, it's the inverse of leftoids saying "anime is woke because gay characters exist." Japan has the cultural maturity to say "gay people exist and we can acknowledge that without making a value judgment about it." We don't.
