I’m sorry, but I need to say this. It’s deeply upsetting that so few people are talking about the Palestinian detainees who are occasionally released by Israel. This is a photo of one of them, released just five days ago after being held for months. These individuals have endured unimaginable conditions. Many lost family members while detained. Some only learned upon their release that their loved ones had been killed. Why aren’t their stories followed closely? Why aren’t their names, faces, and voices being shared? There’s absolutely nothing wrong with amplifying the abduction and release of activists, whether they’re detained for hours or days. But why does that same energy vanish when it comes to Palestinians? We know the answer. Their arrests, abuse, and even deaths have been normalized to the point of invisibility. Even when we do share their stories, they barely gain traction. It’s heartbreaking and frustrating to see so many, including large accounts that built followings through Gaza advocacy, remain silent on this. You’re missing the point.

#Communiqué | Arrestation et détention du photojournaliste Yassine Gaidi (@YassineGaidi) Inkyfada exprime sa plus vive inquiétude et sa profonde indignation face à la détention arbitraire et aux violences subies par le photojournaliste tunisien Yassine Gaidi, collaborateur régulier de notre rédaction et membre du bureau exécutif du Syndicat national des journalistes tunisiens (SNJT). Yassine Gaidi a été arrêté dans la nuit du 1er octobre 2025, alors qu’il couvrait la flottille humanitaire “Global Sumud Flotilla”, mission internationale civile destinée à briser le blocus imposé à Gaza. Le navire a été intercepté dans les eaux internationales, à environ 70 milles nautiques des côtes de Gaza, avant que Yassine ne soit transféré vers le centre de détention de Ketziot (Ansar III), dans le désert du Néguev. Selon les informations confirmées par le Syndicat national des journalistes tunisiens, notre collègue a été sauvagement battu et soumis à des actes de torture et de maltraitance au sein des prisons de l’occupation. Ces actes constituent une violation flagrante du droit international humanitaire, des conventions de Genève et des principes fondamentaux de la liberté de la presse. Inkyfada condamne avec la plus grande fermeté cette agression barbare visant un journaliste dans l’exercice de son devoir professionnel, et dénonce la politique systématique d’intimidation, de persécution et de brutalisation des journalistes couvrant la situation en Palestine. Nous appelons à la libération immédiate et inconditionnelle de Yassine Gaidi, ainsi que de tous·tes les journalistes et participant·es à la flottille actuellement détenu·es. Nous exprimons également notre solidarité absolue avec les journalistes et les prisonnier·ères palestinien·nes soumis·es à des traitements inhumains dans les geôles de l’occupation. Enfin, Inkyfada appelle le gouvernement tunisien et le ministère des Affaires étrangères à assumer pleinement leurs responsabilités diplomatiques et politiques pour garantir la protection et la libération rapide de Yassine Gaidi. Il est impératif que les autorités tunisiennes mobilisent tous les canaux diplomatiques et juridiques disponibles, en coordination avec les organisations internationales et les pays partenaires, afin de mettre fin à cette détention illégale et d’assurer la sécurité de notre collègue. During our successfully conducted visit today to Dr. Husam Abu Safiya, director of Kamal Adwan Hospital, who was arrested in December 2024 and remains incarcerated in Israel, a serious and alarming picture emerged. Since his arrest, Dr. Abu Safiya has lost approximately 25 kilograms. He suffers from serious scabies and heart problems but is not receiving any medical treatment. It became clear during the visit that Dr. Abu Safiya has not been brought before a judge, investigated, or given any information about the reason for his arrest since March.

BREAKING We just heard a loud explosion on the Global Sumud Flotilla. We were already on high alert, with life jackets at the ready, after a drone reportedly dropped something on to another boat. Boats are reporting a "communications jam" interfering with their radios, although this has not been verified. It comes after more than a dozen drones were seen flying low over Alma earlier in the night. Alma is sailing under a British flag and it is therefore the duty of the British government to protect her.
