My family has worked damn hard to rise out of poverty, I’m proud of that. I’m also proud north memphis cause all that shit makes me who I am. Y’all get a little money and can’t wait to parrot white folks...gtf bitch

I grew up disadvantaged and in poverty. I’m sensitive to the topic of prison and the justice system because you can’t acknowledge that poverty is bad without acknowledging the havoc it wreaks on the sufferers psyche and decision making skills. Crime and poverty are married.

If you wanted to end the cycle of poverty it would start with your child’s education and making sure they aren’t exposed to danger. These cities have done a great job at making sure that all those impoverished kids stay away from their nice neighborhoods and good schools.

Ok first let’s talk about systemic racism and how it leads to poverty, poor and educational work opportunities leading to crime. Address that first.

People claim to understand poverty but don’t understand that people actually live in poverty. Good for y’all, I’m jealous.

It doesn’t matter if the community is black, Hispanic, white or whomever…high poverty will yield high crime

Back to the topic at hand, poverty and lack of options breeds violence and crime. We just so happen to all be stuck in our shitty neighborhood together, hence “black on black” crime. I bet there’s lots of white on white crime in trailer parks. I mean...WHAT?!

Thank you! People cite “black on black” violence as their go to argument but never mention that crime typically goes hand in hand with poverty. Once we can address that, then we can talk real change.
