@audioslaveac as someone that is trained within the social science and humanities world, i can agree that there is immense prejudice ascribed to social science by people from stem, but i think it's also our job to explain and defend our discipline more thoroughly

@audioslaveac my complaint is in this specific tweet is not necessarily about stem perceptions towards social science but rather how social science folks respond to stem skepticism of social science which, in my opinion, they are doing a terrible job

tbh, i kinda get why people from STEM have intense skepticism towards social science considering that people who defend social science keep repeating abstract words like capitalism, colonialism, decolonisation without any consideration with the empirical

@homosayfpiens the funny thing is both sides don't understand the word they are using but it's ironic on the social science peeps since those words are theirs to begin with

@hidrokarbone tbf social science methodology is a bit different from stem so of course it's a bit difficult to reach the same level as rigour as stem (some disciplines even, by nature, can't be replicated, such as anthropology due to its methodology and purposes) but these buzzwords are tiring

@_itenoir YES!! We just want theories backed by empirical evidence that’s all. It’s just tragic that the current state of social sciences is filled with p-hacked HARKed garbage causing the replicability crisis.

@NOT____1111ff difficult as in, assuming you didn't change your name legally, you need to submit your profile under your legal name and the university might ask why your publications have a different name from your legal name and might ask you to provide proof for a change of name

@NOT____1111ff though technically there are no formal rules prohibiting you from making a new name, you just need to ensure that you're consistent with the name and make academic profile with that name too (like orcid and whatnot). but it might be difficult if you're aiming at academic career

@plutoniangoat people dislike Graeber, justifiably so, but i remember he wrote exactly about this tho in American context in his bullshit job book. he approached it through people's perspective tho rather than structural analysis of it, but if you're interested you can check that out

w pernah bilang, there is a lack of analysis (atau mungkin w gatau aj) on how these institutions persists partly bc they're seen as a route for social mobility. ini anekdotal, but ig where there is a lack of decent opportunities, rang larinya kalo ga jadi pns ya tni/polri.
