brilliant timing on my part to have pulled the transmission out of my truck two days ago, i need that fuckin thing

i somehow went from more or less no work to more than i can do in like...2 weeks? wtf happened, apparently i am a mechanic now now i gotta be careful not to fall back into the goingreallyfastallthetimetryingtogeteverythingdone trap again

do i really need to get everything done as quickly as possible? probably not, and analysis paralysis costs me lots of time and energy so i'll get to a couple jobs a few days later...they'll survive

i've been stressing myself out trying to do everything i need to do as efficiently as possible...that approach requires me to hold too many threads in my head at once i'm gonna try going for max focus on one thing at a time instead of max total speed thru everything i need to do

i'm about to turn 27 and i feel my life's work is just beginning

i feel i'm beginning to have a sense of aesthetic taste that is new. i'm more particular about how i want my life to be, how i want to tell stories, how i want to show up. morally, visually, narratively. i can't quite meet my own taste yet, but i have something to pursue!

i want to go fast, ride at my limit. i want to go slow, take time to really see i want authenticity more than anything. these trips are filmed, and the experience often felt changed by recording it. schrödinger's moment. any trace of acting for the camera ruins it for me

boutta get back from a 6 week motorcycle trip, and for one of the first times in my life i cannot fucking wait to go home there is a woman waiting for me to come back! there are so many things waiting for me to fix them! there are trees to sit under!

already got pulled over once, passed literally 1000+ trucks that were stuck sitting on the road because of a landslide, and got cornered by a very nice and unbelievably drunk local who would not fuck off until we pretended to be unable to understand a word of spanish

we are FINALLY on the road after 9 days of twiddling our thumbs waiting for paperwork god it feels good

these things that have always been the same will soon topple right over as their foundation corrodes. but the lake still smells like shit: fish and seaweed. the waves will still wash you up on the big rock. the creek still picks its way.

last summer we were up at the family cottage on the lake. late one night, around the fire, we get to talking about my late uncle paul, who offed himself a few years ago at the ripe age of 27. no one has anything all that good to say, just talkin about how weird he was.

the beginning of this motorcycle trip has consisted of an unexpected 8 days of sitting on our asses waiting for paperwork that we didn't know we needed, so i have had plenty of time to fantasize about all the shit i wanna work on when i get home
