Chapter 2 of the Bhagavad Gita is often remembered for Krishna’s teaching that the soul never dies. But what strikes me even more is what Krishna says just before that. He tells Arjuna that grieving over what is inevitable is not wisdom, it is a failure to see life clearly. Krishna is not being harsh or asking Arjuna to stop feeling pain. He is refusing to let grief become an excuse to turn away from life & responsibility. Today, we often use spirituality to soften sorrow and make it more comforting. But the Gita is more demanding than that. It does not say that wisdom removes grief. It says wisdom removes the confusion that turns grief into helplessness. Clear seeing does not take away pain. It simply helps us accept what cannot be changed & continue walking. The Gita is not teaching us how to avoid sorrow. It is teaching us how to live with sorrow without letting it stop us from living.
