Yes, Mary was chosen to be the mother of Jesus during His earthly ministry. No evidence of anything beyond that. The earliest known depiction of Mary is over 100 years after the ascension of Jesus. Known prayers to Mary took even longer. Neither Jesus or the first century church endorsed the high view of Mary, including beliefs, that she was sinless, was a perpetual version, or ascended to heaven, without dying. These are all man-made inventions influenced by paganism and Gnosticism.
