What you do at KS3 in writing makes a difference to how well students write at GCSE - but it's not to do with constant 'practice' of GCSE-style tasks. It's about a whole lot of other things!

@kathryndv @engteacherabro2 We start with a short story anthology and currently teaching N&C play but supplemented with a wider fiction, non-fiction, poetry anthology etc xx

@cerysturner7 @LucyGoBag Then education needs to adapt as well because my niece’s homework is set on her phone, even the book was online for her English homework, reading it on an iPhone. They have to pay for school lunches and the school bus with it. Their whole school life infrastructure is online 😢

NEW: Schools are now expected to be fully phone-free, the govt has announced. + Pupils should not have access to phones during lessons, break times, or between lessons + Staff also expected to not use phones in front of pupils + Ofsted will check schools are following phone-ban
