NEWS: San Jose State guard Melvin Bell Jr. is entering the transfer portal, his agent Ryan Straining of Always On Sports Agency told @LeagueRDY. Bell averaged 8.7 PPG & 4.1 RPG this season while starting 24 games as a true freshman. Bell will also consider a return to San Jose State.

Melvin Bell Position: Guard Height: 6'3" Class: 2025 School: La Lumiere (IN) Melvin Bell, a recent signee for @SanJoseStateMBB, is a tough, physical guard known for his slashing ability. He excels at attacking the basket, finishing through contact, and creating offense in transition. With his combination of speed, strength, and explosiveness, Bell has the potential to break down defenses and consistently beat defenders off the dribble, making him a constant threat on the floor. Scoring & Slashing Ability: Bell’s scoring is centered around his ability to drive to the basket with force and determination. With a quick first step and a strong, powerful frame, he can easily blow by defenders and finish at the rim, often drawing fouls in the process. Whether it’s a contested layup, dunk, or tough finish through contact, Bell is at his best in the paint. His ability to consistently beat defenders off the dribble makes him a constant threat and difficult to contain. Though his main strength is attacking the basket, Bell’s shooting has also improved, especially from beyond the arc. His developing three-point shot forces defenders to respect his range, making it harder for them to focus solely on stopping his drives. This added dimension to his game makes him a more well-rounded offensive threat. Athleticism & Physicality: Bell’s explosive athleticism is a key factor in his success as a slasher. His speed, quickness, and leaping ability allow him to finish above the rim with power and to absorb contact without losing his balance. When Bell gains momentum, he’s nearly impossible to stop. His physicality also makes him dangerous in transition, where he can quickly turn a defensive rebound or steal into an offensive opportunity, often finishing fast breaks with ease. Defense & Rebounding: Bell's physicality and versatility extend to his defense. He has the strength to guard multiple positions, from point guards to small forwards, and the lateral quickness to stay in front of quicker guards. Bell is aggressive on the ball, often pressuring ball handlers and forcing turnovers. He’s also a disruptive force in passing lanes and can come up with timely steals. Despite being a guard, Bell’s hustle and tenacity make him a strong rebounder, particularly on the offensive glass. His ability to secure rebounds and extend possessions is a valuable asset, helping his team generate extra opportunities on offense and maintain control of the game’s tempo. Development: Since his standout performance at Peach Jam, Bell has made impressive strides in his game. His three-point shooting has developed significantly, making him more of a perimeter threat. This improvement in his shooting complements his already dangerous ability to attack the rim, making him harder to defend. Bell has also refined his decision-making, becoming more efficient in his drives to the basket, and showing better patience and poise in high-pressure situations. Summary: Melvin Bell is an explosive guard with strong slashing ability and the potential to be a major offensive threat for San Jose State. His combination of speed, strength, and finishing ability makes him tough to stop both in transition and the half-court offense. With his growing shooting ability and the ability to beat defenders off the dribble, Bell is poised to be a key contributor on both ends of the floor. @_melvinbell_ @LaLuBasketball @CityOfPalmsBKB
