general rule for expressions: you HAVE to get over your fear of wrinkles/ugliness. We've got 43 muscles in our face, your skin's gonna mould around them. Also, play with symmetry! One half of the face can emote slightly differently than the other, adding nuance to the expression

I think the reason a lot of people struggle w sad expressions is because they’re focusing on making sure the character still looks good. Crying and despair and anguish isn’t SUPPOSED to look good. Don’t be afraid to make them a little ugly!!
