This goes both ways too. Deniers and believers.

Perhaps the cognitive dissonance about what is or isn’t going to happen in the next 18 months is just an extreme form of kayfabe. To build something great you need to buy into it totally and any crack in your internal belief means you might cripple under the pressure if you feel it’s not completely inevitable. What may start as conscious quickly becomes unconscious, especially if everyone around you is doing the same.

@tomfgoodwin People want to really believe there is an easier way they haven’t tried, and advertising seems to be mostly built around that these days.

@tomfgoodwin I think there’s also something about the simplicity of the ad and what you’re sharing . They’ve made careers of selling complexity (much easier than selling simple and effectve)

Social media is so odd I went semi viral on blue sky it seems. For saying why I liked an ad And then somehow thousand of strangers are piling on saying what an insufferable dick I am. Doesn’t bother me in the slightest but one does wonder why the internet is so mean.

@eli1ah I definitely have, unfortunately. Weird thing is that it’s actually hard to tell what does make a difference in those environments. Easy to call thing that is making the difference bullshit without realising.

@p_millerd I would say the opposite to the original tweet. Being fearful means I leave too many options open “just in case”

i honestly dont even think in options anymore i sort of just have an inner hunch that many will emerge, less as "options" or paths, and more as obvious invitations from the world
Tiago Forte@fortelabs

I’ve found in my coaching that I can directly measure the level of fear someone is experiencing by counting the number of options they believe they have If they think they have ZERO options ("There's nothing I can do, it's out of my hands"), they're in an extremely fearful state This is equivalent to a frightened animal cowering in the corner of a cage. They don't believe they can do anything to influence their situation. They have no choice but to endure it If they think they have ONE option ("I have to break up with her," "I have to quit my job") they're in a highly fearful state They see one possible course of action, but only one, and thus they still don't really have a choice, and are at the mercy of external forces If they think they have TWO options ("I have to either get a job or stay unemployed," "I can stay with him or leave him") there's still a lot of fear, although they're slightly more empowered as there's at least some choice This is binary thinking – you have to make a choice, and the available options represent two extremes without much subtlety or nuance If they think they have THREE options ("I can take this job, that job, or keep searching," "We can stay together, break up, or shift our relationship in this way...") then real choice is beginning to emerge They are now emerging from fear-based decision-making, and starting to mix and match different elements of their available options to come up with new ones Once they think they have FOUR OR MORE options, that's when the fear fades into the background, true agency emerges, and they start to be fully empowered to author their life as a creative act That's when things become truly interesting...
