A 2025 Science study found that different dendritic segments of a single neuron follow distinct rules. The results challenge the idea that neurons follow a single learning strategy and offer a new perspective on how the brain learns and adapts behavior Learn more in this #SciencePerspective: scim.ag/4thRm1k #ScienceMagArchives

It’s Graduate Student Appreciation Week and all week long MCW’s Graduate School has been hosting events to celebrate our graduate students! The week kicked off with a career panel featuring MCW alumni working across a range of various industries. Students could also attend tailored career advising sessions throughout the week. Other events included building flower bouquets, engaging in mediation, and chatting with the Graduate School deans about resources and opportunities. A highlight of the week was the annual 3-Minute Thesis Competition, where students are challenged to explain their research in under three minutes, using simple language and a single presentation slide. Thank you to 13th Assembly District representative, Robyn Vining, for serving as a judge! The week wrapped up with a picnic and games in the cafeteria courtyard, with the sun breaking through the April showers for. We are proud of our graduate students and grateful for all they do for the MCW community! #GraduateStudentAppreciationWeek #GraduateStudent #GraduateSchool

Ageing impairs memory via gut–brain signalling. Microbiome changes trigger inflammation that disrupts vagal input and hippocampal function. Targeting this pathway restores signalling and improves memory in aged mice. nature.com/articles/s4158…

The hippocampus is one of the most studied brain areas because of its major role in fundamental brain functions including learning, memory, and spatial navigation. In a new #ScienceReview, researchers focus on the role of overlooked areas and circuits within the hippocampus. scim.ag/462jexn
