🚨GPU price drop 🚨 We've reduced the compute unit price of NVIDIA A100 and L4 GPUs by 20% 📉 T4s saw small drops as well. High-mem CPUs increased slightly to match costs. Let us know how Colab is working for you and what we can do to improve!

What kind of childhood makes a top scientist? Is it enough to have all the right traits (brilliance, grit, etc) or do you need the right family too? And why should we care? A 🧵 on our paper on the Nobel Laureates. A teaser: the income distribution of the laureates' fathers.1/N

@elonmusk @wholemars it would be confusing. How about a steering wheel with polar symmetry? The controls can be added to a touch display inside the wheel, so one can also get rid of the main display.

@wholemars We should change that so the yoke is stationary, as it is not mechanically coupled to the wheels. Same goes for when it is on Autopilot.

First test of pure vision Autopark on the Tesla Cybertruck… I’m impressed! So cool to see the Cybertruck wheel moving on its own for the first time.

I am happy to announce that the Temperature Dependent Effective Potentials (TDEP) code is officially released and published in JOSS! 🎉 TDEP is a code for advanced phonon simulations in materials with a focus on anharmonic properties. More details below: joss.theoj.org/papers/10.2110…

🚨 summoning the hivemind! 🐝 I want to have some interactive computational demos in my course next semester, likely in the form of notebooks. I need it to be runnable in a browser without installing anything or waiting excessively for something to spin up, …

Differentiable programming (dP) is great: train neural networks to match anything w/ gradients! ODEs? Neural ODEs. Physics? Yes. Agent-Based models? Nope, not differentiable... or are they? Check out our new paper at NeurIPS on Stochastic dP!🧵 arxiv.org/abs/2210.08572

This approach, named the "Transmission Interpolation Method" (TIM), was applied to design a material with the desired effective thermal conductivity tensor and to optimize a thermoelectric material (under some approximations)

We combined a JAX-based differentiable phonon transport simulator (OpenBTE) with density-based topology optimization. Material interpolation was obtained by turning the interfacial phonon transmission into intermediate variables describing the material distribution.
