I’ve spent the last month asking women in India about the size of their vanity kits. Ratna, 22, lives in a Mumbai shanty town and cleans offices. Two years ago, her vanity bag had just lipstick and kajal (kohl). Now it includes moisturizer and eyeliner. Radhika, 30, works a desk job at a multinational corporation in Bengaluru. Her vanity kit has grown from two items to seven including sunscreen, lip balm, eyeshadow and blush.
