I remembered a convo I had with my wife (girlfriend at the time) where I was working a full time job and doing game stuff on the side and just losing all my free time that could be put towards spending time with her or my family. I told her I felt like I’m running out of steam to keep doing both and if I like ever wanted to idk do game development full time I was running out of time to make it happen. Decided I was going to try like a game jam and just go all in on it to really feel out if any of this was going anywhere. Entered the BIGMODE game jam where we made arctic eggs. it didn’t win anything but the reception was so positive it felt worth it to make it a full thing. Released it on steam a few months later and it did great. Complete coincidence (I think lol) but very shortly after I was let go from my full time job. But it wasn’t as scary as it should’ve been because arctic eggs gave enough financial security to last me awhile. I’ve been a full time game dev ever since, signed with a great publisher, and I still have no free time for my friends or family.

@SebMIDI naw, it's not that crazy. There's other stuff you have to do besides flying so I don't want to go overboard with the flight model

Your job is to maintain inter-settlement communications towers at various airports and outposts in the Megastructure. Land, fix, go on to the next one. What could go wrong?

@SomeWeirdo40k Have you heard of bush planes? They can land on rough terrain with very short runway lengths. There are outposts with short runways, and some with better runways too.

@_rubeki How you even land in those megastructures there is like a hole with a big runway? or they just "fish" your plane parasite fighter style?

@geolog110 Planes with short take off / landing length (like STOL planes) were chosen for speed in case of emergencies. Gyros / helis / etc are generally slower than even lower end planes, so that's the lore reason I'm going with.

@_rubeki how do you solve the runway problem? a full on plane seems cumbersome in that scenario an airship or heli/gyro/tiltrotor looks like it would fit better if you're going for a plane, something like IRL pre-WW2 biplane carrying airships US had could do mb?
