#GirodItalia

@NabilHunt @arthurbfrd You can't upload any gpx on Strava and call it a day, but you would know that if you used the platform. Strava also has mechanisms to detect unrealistic data. But anyway, all this stuff is useless, the only real performance is the one you do at a race.

@arthurbfrd Isn't .gpx just an XML file ? Which part required clever engineering ?

Will I get sued for this? I’ve just built FakeMy.Run a website that lets you create fake running activities Strava mules have gone viral recently for charging 10-20$ to run for other people and improve their stats, which made me think there has to be an easier way There is. And after a bit of clever engineering, I built Fake My Run: - Go to any location in the world - Draw a couple of dots on the map - Align your run to the roads/trails - Set your pace, date and description - Download your activity as a file (.GPX) It’s that easy. TBH, I didn’t make Fake My Run without purpose. I’ve been running for 10+ years, and in the last couple of years I’ve noticed the culture around running has shifted. Running used to be a very personal sport that was mainly practised to challenge yourself, to improve your physical and mental health, to stay in shape, to compete with others, to discover new parts of the world, etc. In the last couple of years, I’ve seen running increasingly shift towards becoming a social status and way of signalling a lifestyle. Every activity can be turned into an Instagram story, every marathon can become a TikTok video. And social running apps are the spine, the solid, irrefutable proof of those very achievements. Like social media though, running posts can be faked. Which is in part why I made Fake My Run. As a way to challenge the culture shift around running. To also prove the good old saying that you shouldn’t trust what you see on the internet. But also because it was technically doable and entertaining. Maybe this is a flawed reasoning to a real problem, I’m just another runner guilty of the very things I am criticising here. Curious to see how this will be received Disclaimer: Please be mindful of the ToS of running apps. Fake My Run was built for entertainment and educational purposes. Please use responsibly.

@RMCSport

@NeraBerg13 @eurosport Interesting, I once accidentally put too much in muffins as a yeast substitute and it tasted very awkward (bitter and salty at the same time), you put lemon juice in proportionate amounts to counteract that because it reacts with the soda. That paste must taste awful doesn't it?

@eurosport People are saying it's actually a Bicarbonate soda type paste as can't be used as a gel and apparently has variouse effects likes reducing lactic accid, increasing carbohydrate intake and in general just helps the rider go for longer. Also, yes it's legal within the sport.

#FRAARG #Paris2024

As some of you will have read/seen, we recently regained financial and editorial control of PSN (PlaySportsNetwork) from Warner Bros Discovery, which means some changes for me. I could never have imagined when I joined GCN at its inception in 2012 that we'd go from a small start-up YouTube channel, to multiple channels with many millions of subscribers, billions of views, to starting a successful subscription service that showed the biggest races in the world and a heap of amazing cycling documentaries. GCN’s journey with Eurosport and live racing is something I’ll never forget - we achieved a hell of a lot in a very short time. I think we made some really positive changes for cycling, and I will always be very proud of that. However, it's been a tough 8 months or so for GCN - the shuttering of GCN+, and now the website, has meant we've lost a lot of very talented, hard working colleagues who are incredibly passionate about the sport. The show must go on, though. GCN is still full of amazing people, and more importantly, supported by an incredible community of cyclists. I firmly believe that the next part of our journey will be more exciting than ever - I want to be part of, and instrumental in that next adventure, the next chapter. Unfortunately, that means I will no longer be on The Breakaway or Eurosport’s cycling commentary. It's a part of my job that I will dearly miss, but more than that, I will miss the fantastic group of people (on screen/mic and off) who I had the privilege of working with there for the last few years. I really couldn't have asked for a better team to spend three weeks at a time with. Thanks to all of you who have been so kind in your messages of support for GCN these last few months - it's really meant the world to everyone at the company. As an aside, I know a lot of you have been waiting for the GCN+ documentaries to find a new home, and the good news is that they'll be available again via a YouTube membership that we're setting up LATER TODAY. I'm heading out to Florence this week for the Grand Départ, so I look forward to bumping into some of you there. Thanks for reading. Dan
