Ronin Will Open Tomorrow – But What Does That Mean? I know many of you who are new to the @Ronin_Network ecosystem might be wondering: What does an open Ronin mean? In this post, I'll explain the key points. When Ronin launched in 2021, it was solely focused on supporting the growth of Axie Infinity. Then, in 2023, Ronin began expanding its ecosystem by selectively onboarding partners to build on Ronin. What is Open Ronin (Ronin Permissionless )? Simply put, an open Ronin means the platform is now accessible to all projects in the space—games, DeFi, CEXs, RWAs, and more—allowing them to build on Ronin and leverage its powerful distribution network for growth. This marks a new era for Ronin, welcoming all builders. From a technical perspective, Open Ronin will utilize zkEVM Layer 2s powered by Polygon. The Polygon CDK and Cross-Chain Relayer will enable builders running a validator to launch their own game-specific chains on top of Ronin (Ronin Layer 2), such as Pixels Chain and Ragmon Chain. How can a project launch a Ronin Layer 2 on Ronin Mainnet? Developers will need to meet the 250K RON (~$287,500) requirement to run a Ronin validator before launching their own chain. Additionally, the economic activity on these L2s will contribute to higher staking rewards for delegators. Once launched, these Layer 2 chains can attract and onboard projects to build within their ecosystems. Currently, Ronin has 32 validators securing the network, with a total of 244,144,443 RON staked, representing 40.06% of RON’s circulating supply. Why did Ronin choose zkEVM technology? zkEVM is crucial for scaling Ronin, allowing the blockchain to process more transactions without revealing transaction data. Today, Ronin can handle ~40 million transactions per day, but with zkEVM, it can scale up to 4 billion transactions per day. Seamless cross-chain experiences, enabling users to interact with applications like Mavis Market and Katana from a zkEVM chain. Open accessibility: Anyone can deploy their games on Ronin, fostering competition and accelerating onboarding. Open Ronin marks a new era, welcoming thousands of projects and games to build on Ronin. This is not just a significant milestone for Ronin but for the entire space, as projects can now take advantage of Ronin’s powerful distribution network for growth.
