All hell breaks loose: shame on Cassie for wanting to sell her body, and shame on Sydney Sweeney for not refusing to play a character who commodifies herself. Setting aside one important detail — that an adult woman has the right to do whatever she wants with her own body, especially since in the story it’s Cassie’s choice and no one forces her — the accusation that Euphoria sexualizes bodies is laughable, considering that three-quarters of the girls insulting Sweeney are the same ones who spent months sexualizing Connor Storrie and Hudson Williams from Heated Rivalry, turning them into pieces of meat to fantasize about and write the most explicit things about. I often say that when it comes to gender equality, this is the detail everyone overlooks: why do we get outraged when a woman is sexualized, but swoon when it’s a man? We clearly have some confusion on the matter. And honestly, go ahead and sexualize the actors from Heated Rivalry if you want — but at least have the decency not to insult Sweeney, because at this point, it’s just ridiculous. #euphoria ”
