When people say "God is the God of Israel" and then refer to the physical location that was named "Israel" in 1948 as some type of reparation of sorts for the Holocaust, I know they know absolutely nothing about The Bible.
That's not "Israel" nor the Israel of the Bible, nor what God was referring to when He references Israel.
"Israel" isn't just a blanket term that means all Jews - and modern day Jews as we know them are not "the chosen people", nor are inhabitants of the "Israel" that was established by men God's default "chosen people".
Israel refers to the descendants of Jacob, whom God renamed "Israel".
Jacob's twelve sons became the patriarchs of the Twelve Tribes of Israel (or, their father, formerly Jacob) with whom God established a covenant.
Jesus came from the tribe of Judah, fulfilling the prophecies made by various prophets chosen from these descendants of Jacob (the man renamed Israel).
God's 'chosen' people were people specifically selected to prepare the way for the Messiah and, later, those who believed in Him - they are not simply all random modern day Jews or citizens who inhabit a country established by men.
As those who are Jewish have rejected Christ (as they still wait for their "Messiah"), they cannot possibly be a "chosen" people because the Bible expressly states that the 'chosen' are those people to whom God has chosen to reveal the Son, and who have believed in Him.
There is so much more to it on a spiritual level, but don't let people insult you or call you an "antisemite" because you understand scripture and understand that the modern day country of "Israel" established by men has nothing to do with the covenant with the descendants of Israel (formerly Jacob).
Followers of Christ are not called to bend the knee to any man, religion, or government - least of all those that do not recognize Jesus of Nazareth as the Messiah or act in accordance with His fulfillment of the Law.
