I was so good at this stuff.. I’d always hear “I normally don’t talk this much, don’t know how I’m talking this much with you” The I realized I was giving up precious energy trying to please people so they’ll like me, and this is how I attracted Avoidants. I’d ask questions from their replies, seem very interested, laugh when they make a joke, remember what they said few mins ago and build from that all while getting none of that in return Now I match energy, if you’re not putting effort into the conversation, I’m not as well. I know what I bring to the table, what do you bring?

The trick is to be interested instead of trying to sound interesting. You can literally build a whole conversation from their own replies, no matter how dry they seem. The hack is simple: pick anything they said, ask a follow-up question about it, then share something similar from your own life. People talk more when they feel heard. Even the driest reply has something you can expand on. That’s how conversations actually start.
