@_traces @SnickersSkunk Expecting every user to audit the code isn't realistic.

@SkylarDarkfox Good to know it’s already public! Hopefully he adds a license

The community reaction to this has gone a little too far imo. Things could’ve been done differently, sure, but this was one person making a free, fun project the community clearly loves, who then owned the mistakes, took it down, and made deleting your account easy. I’d rather support him than pile on. Hoping this becomes a rebuild instead of the end, maybe open sourced so everyone can come together and collaborate to make something truly amazing for the whole community! It’s just too good of an idea to lose

About yesterday's incident.

@MarPaws @SnickersSkunk "i refuse to educate myself and its everyone else's fault" ok bro
English

@_traces @SnickersSkunk Most users aren't going to hundreds of lines of code (I wouldn't). Transparency means important information is easy to find and clearly communicated, not just technically available.

While this post does a good job at mentioning how Finn clearly used AI with a lack of security concerns there also is a bizarre paragraph which basically says furries could've prevented this if they were AI-literate and recognized it was AI so they could help him, which I just don't understand
I mean no hate to anyone, but I feel like it is mental gymnastics to apply any blame to anyone except Finn unless they were directly involved with development of the app. There is a very small portion of this community which can aptly recognize a vibecoded app and be able to alleviate all security concerns with it, it's not like everyone is in CS or cybersecurity. The type of 'literacy' you need to solve this issue before something like this happens is more than you would get by just relinquishing your anti-AI viewpoint. I also just don't think it's true that furries couldn't tell it was AI cus the entire frontend looks like it was spit out of Claude but that's less important
I agree with the overall point that more people need to educate themselves, and I also think that the hate and disdain towards Finn is too excessive (as it always is with furries). This was a fuckup, but it's not the end of the world. Just this entire point/paragraph irked me and I wanted to talk about it lol.
I'm not fully anti-AI and my entire job is coding, I've used AI before (though I am no expert). So this post was not meant to be vehemently anti-AI, I just feel like this article downplays the issues with AI as a whole and somehow randomly assigns blame to furries but idk it might just be worded poorly ok done rambling

@MarPaws @SnickersSkunk all that is completely and immediately visible if you sit down and start reading the source files which are freely available on his repo.
English

@_traces @SnickersSkunk Open source doesn't automatically mean transparent tho. If you don't clearly disclose how the app was built, what AI was used, or how user data is handled, people shouldn't have to dig through code to find out 🤷♂️ imo
English

@MarPaws @SnickersSkunk literally open source? hows that not transparent? I get that we're furries but cmon
English

@SnickersSkunk Finn’s biggest mistake wasn’t using AI, it was not being transparent. Honesty could have prevented many problems.

AC this year was one of my favorite cons thus far for sure~ Good chatter and time with close friends. My panel went well! Got a new hood 🐶 This sick piece from a good friend to put on my wall. Danced my ass off with other amazing dancers. Met old and new friends. Beautiful

⚠️ PSA: If you used TailTag, your email among other metadata has been compromised.
The account data of roughly 9,200 users is still publicly accessible without any form of authentication. Watch out for any suspicious emails, especially related to conventions.

Finn the Panther@FinnThePanther
I can confirm that TailTag accouts were not compromised: neither emails, passwords, GPS data, nor account access tokens were visible. The attacker utilized their own account to exploit a vulnerability in the external service the app uses for push notifications. More info tomorrow
