the wedding industry relies on a $15,000 "politeness tax" that 83% of couples blindly pay
you pay it the second you say one word
wedding photographer: $4,000
"event photographer" same work same hours: $1,200
wedding cake: $800
"celebration cake" same size same design: $250
wedding flowers: $3,500
"party flowers" same arrangements: $1,100
wedding venue: $8,000
"private event rental" same space same date: $4,000
the word "wedding" is a 200-400% markup trigger
vendors hear it and mentally double the quote before responding
you're not paying for better service
you're paying because you were too polite to ask for the real price first
here's how to stop being the sucker:
step 1: never say "wedding" in the first message
"hi, i'm planning a formal dinner party for about 100 guests on [date]. could you share your pricing and availability?"
get the quote in writing
step 2: reveal after you have the number locked
"thanks for this. just to confirm, this is for a wedding celebration. does that change the pricing?"
what happens:
1. price stays same = you just saved thousands
2. price increases = you negotiate from the lower number
3. price doubles = you walk and find someone honest
the markup by vendor:
photographers: "corporate event" = 40-60% less
florists: "party flowers" = 60-70% less
cakes: "anniversary cake" = 50-60% less
venues: "private event" = 30-50% less
djs: "birthday party" = 40-50% less
catering: "formal dinner" = 30-40% less
the numbers that should piss you off:
- average wedding cost: $35,000
- percentage that's pure "wedding tax": 30-50%
- couples who negotiate: 17%
- couples who get a discount when they try: 64%
83% of couples never question the first quote
they just pay it because asking feels rude
the wedding industry built a $70 billion business on your politeness
one word. one script. $15,000 back in your pocket.
stop paying the tax

This is just one of countless unethical ways money is made online.
This video shows a poker bot farm.
Multiple bots sit at the same table and share their cards in real time.
Because they know each other’s cards, they never bluff or trap each other.
They only bet aggressively when the human is statistically behind, and fold otherwise.
A single bot farm like this can make more than the house!!

@wamy_hamy Right. But we can also charge $500/mo extra because of the new flooring we're installing

Somewhere between 30-90% of coffee is moldy btw
I haven’t had coffee in over 5 months and I 100% think it’s helping my health to reduce the mold exposure

Chicken sandwiches to me are never more than "meh". Not sure what I need to add to make them interesting. A thicker hunk o' chicken just adds a dull flavorless slab. A thinner slice means I just taste the breading. No breading makes it even worse.
If you know of a chicken sandwich that is genuinely good, please aim me at it. I realize that the answer might be "no fast food chicken sandwich is good" and I'm okay with that.

@BloomOne @Martyupnorth I’m confused how one loses digits doing that. Don’t the hands stay on the handles?
