The concept of getting top surgery to get to the top...

8 hours later I'm still thinking about how there's a writer out there sincerely believing there is a cis indie author to trans trad author pipeline. Do they do the surgeries inside the offices of Big 5 Publishers? Do they take all the Simons and turn them into Schusters?

Getting gender affirming care (something that is often expensive, inaccessible, and emotionally taxing) so that you can make up like 1% of published authors who are transgender is a bold commitment for the love of the game ngl that writer wanted to play life on X games mode

anyway. stuff like this reminds me how marginalized writers/readers really have to be our own community. my debut is finding its audience on the backs of early excitement from (largely queer/bipoc) readers. as a non big 5 author, i’m very thankful.

so. we live under capitalism. meaning that publisher's first priority is profit. so they prioritize appealing to the largest consumer demo who reads. that group is white, cis, straight women. diversity initiatives are around only to try and give the marginalized a fighting chance
