That night could have ended very differently if one person hadn’t noticed something small that everybody else missed. Since then, the video still circulates online sometimes with one caption attached: “Watch your drink. Even around people who look normal.”

Clear enough. Close enough. Impossible to explain away. And suddenly the same crowd that had ignored him all night was staring at him differently. Police arrived minutes later. Turns out, this wasn’t even the first time his name had come up at a party.

The music was loud enough to shake the walls, and everybody at the rooftop party looked like they were having the time of their lives. Lights flashing. People dancing. Phones recording everything.

Started this year thinking I had everything figured out. Now I just drink water dramatically and hope for the best.
