In 2004 the Sun Fire E25k was the apex predator of computing. This was the largest single-image Unix machine that money could buy ($2M fully loaded). This bad boy had: • 36 UltraSPARC IV processors (72 cores) • 576 GB RAM • 18 fully hot swappable CPU/memory boards • gigabit ethernet and fibre channel HBAs • Redundant power supplies, cooling zones, draw 15kW of power I deployed software to these things. Uptime was measured in years. This was THE ONE. Man I miss Sun.

Clawdbot is cool. Not getting shot by ICE for being brown or just standing there because our government created a racist paramilitary with more funding than the Marine Corps but with a third of the training and none of the prerequisite entry requirements: even cooler.

I have a few regrets in my career. Not being able to complete an investigation into Salt Typhoon as part of the USG’s Cyber Safety Review Board is creeping to the top of that list. Unfortunately I’m not surprised to see this news emerging in the UK, as I suspect the intelligence gathering is pervasive across many countries. And unfortunately I’m not surprised to see legally mandated backdoors (lawful intercept systems) exploited for adversarial gain.

Nobody should be using up arrows to get previous commands in a terminal or shell. You have to move your hand and its linear complexity in keystrokes. Use ctrl+p (for low n) or ctrl+r. Use a real shell or history manager (fish, fzf, atuin) for ctrl+r.

Masked agents of the US state are executing people in the streets and powerful leaders are openly lying to cover for them. To everyone in my industry who’s ever claimed to value freedom—draw on the courage of your convictions and stand up.

Ghostty is now a non-profit project, fiscally sponsored by Hack Club. mitchellh.com/writing/ghostt… I view terminals as critical infrastructure that should be stewarded by a mission-driven, non-commercial entity that prioritizes public benefit over profit. Ghostty is now that.

AUP+SUP automates provisioning/management of user credentials from your existing SCIM-enabled IdP and secrets management infrastructure to CKS and SUNK. Excited to build the first hyperscaler that natively leverages your existing cloud + self managed infra to protect your data.
CoreWeave@CoreWeave

It’s official — Automated User Provisioning (AUP) and SUNK User Provisioning (SUP) are now generally available. Seamless, secure access from your IdP to Slurm-on-Kubernetes (SUNK) — fully automated. Dive into the details: hubs.la/Q03VcQ0k0

I've recently started integrating transcription into my daily workflow. Its gotten so good. Away from the computer I'll ramble hours of thoughts to myself, then use an LLM to split and organize that into more coherent chunks, then draw up plans for when I'm back to a computer. This is replacing... memory mostly, pen/paper secondarily. I say memory foremost because its allowing me to think critically and plan in environments I probably wouldn't have before. I'm certain I'm using suboptimal tooling for this so any recommendations are welcome! Right now I'm using WisprFlow into Apple Notes and then manually (red flag!) throwing that into a local agent to organize into markdown files. I'd love to have something that was more end to end in a single solution. And also something that would talk back to me, e.g. if I said "oh, can you explain what I talked about yesterday at the conclusion of chasing this problem down?"

Software as Self-Expression There's something intimate about building software that I don't think we talk about enough. When someone uses something you've made, they're seeing the world through your lens. They're adopting your mental models, even if just temporarily, to get something done.

TLDR: the day New York is embracing destructive Soviet communism is the day: - Murray Hill, the West Village, and the Hamptons aren't filled with IB analysts pretending they're VPs. - You can get into Den Social before 12 w/out a table or connections. That day isn't today.

Also not communism what this buys: - City-subsidized grocery stores for low-income, which is the economic equivalent of TrumpRx for food - Free bus service for NYC residents (really important when subway/MTA costs big % of poverty income) - Subsidized low income child care

As someone who lives in NJ and works in Manhattan (sitting about 4 blocks south of NYSE right now) the national rhetoric about Mamdani is insane Pretty fair to have issues with +2% city tax on >$1mm earnings. But neither that nor equalizing NYC/NJ corp tax rates is communism
