Hopes of a military coup against President Emmerson Mnangagwa, led by his vice president, General Constantino Chiwenga and his associates, have reportedly been quashed after sources say that South African President Cyril Ramaphosa assured his Zimbabwean counterpart that South Africa will not countenance any unconstitutional removal of a president in Zimbabwe. Today, President Emmerson Mnangagwa met with Ramaphosa in Harare, where he was received by Mnangagwa alongside businessmen Wicknell Chivayo and Kudakwashe Tagwirei, before the two leaders and the two businessmen flew on a one hour helicopter trip together to Mnangagwa’s farm, Precabe, in Kwekwe. They toured the farm, where the South African president was shown Mnangagwa’s Ankoli cattle and fish breeding pools. When they reached the ostriches, Ramaphosa is said to have remarked, in a pointed and politically loaded statement, that “nothing and nobody will remove my elder brother from power unconstitutionally.” The remark was made in the presence of members of the delegation accompanying the two leaders. “The owner of these ostriches will be president until 2030 if Parliament says so,” Ramaphosa is further reported to have said, reinforcing his assurance to Mnangagwa and those present. The two leaders then went into a four-hour closed-door meeting, where they were joined by Tagwirei and Chivayo. The meeting was described as highly personal and private, with even the president’s spokesperson, George Charamba, excluded from the delegation for today’s visit. Sources familiar with the discussions say Ramaphosa made it clear that South Africa would neither support nor recognise a military coup against Mnangagwa. Those within Mnangagwa’s inner circle were reportedly buoyant after the engagement, interpreting Ramaphosa’s position as a significant reinforcement of regional backing. They believe that, with South Africa’s stance now aligned with that of countries such as Tanzania, Mozambique, Zambia, and, more recently, Botswana, where Chivayo travelled in recent days, Mnangagwa has effectively strengthened his position and insulated his presidency within the region against any potential coup attempt. What was significant today is that South African President Cyril Ramaphosa’s trip to Zimbabwe, which I broke last night, was not an official bilateral state engagement conducted at the level of heads of state. It was a private trip, and sources in Pretoria say that many people in the president’s office, and indeed within DIRCO, the foreign affairs department of South Africa, were not aware of it. President Cyril Ramaphosa is now back in South Africa after the short visit to Zimbabwe.

There are societies that have conquered Earth. They have owned almost everything and enjoyed the beauty of life. They have mastered housing, healthcare, education, stable currencies, high-speed trains, aeroplanes, skyscrapers, bridges, submarines, warships, and oil plants. Now, they are exploring outer galaxies just to catch a glimpse of the stars. In contrast, the year is 2026 in Africa, and government officials are stealing from the national treasury. There are countries without running water, electricity, or food security. These corrupt politicians are not colonial governments, they are native Africans, born and raised in Africa, yet destroying the land of their ancestors and their heritage. We cannot deny the impact of the IQ metric on the quality of governance and national systems.

I have supported several pupils through their Cambridge programmes, and they have all performed commendably. However, I have consistently observed a gap: the marginalisation of vernacular languages, arts and practical subjects. When these areas are sacrificed, the education system becomes incomplete, producing learners who may excel academically but lack cultural grounding and applied competencies. An education framework that allows progression to A Level on the basis of (say) only four Cambridge passes risks narrowing intellectual development. It prioritises a limited set of core subjects at the expense of a more holistic, well-rounded education that nurtures critical thinking, creativity, and practical skills. Hence the country is overloaded with lawyers and accountants. More broadly, Zimbabwe’s education system, much like its health sector, has evolved into a two-tier structure, largely shaped by the realities of a dual-currency environment. Access, quality, and outcomes are increasingly determined by financial capacity, creating systemic inequalities and half-backed learners. In this context, as the country moves towards a unified single currency regime, it is understandable that the government seeks to harmonise and reassert oversight of the education system. Such efforts, if carefully implemented, could help restore equity, coherence, and national relevance within the sector.

@questoknow @FaraiMazhindu I don't believe we have technological minds in Zim or African for that matter...We are good at theory yes...but practical experimentation and design and implemention of idea... finding solutions...it is our weak point... This is why I don’t understand adult Zimbabweans esp those who are upper poor (no real middle class) who want to be begged to participate and vote. Democracy and good gov is a public good. We all have to participate. Good healthcare requires all our voices and votes.

There is no one in Zimbabwe who has had a close relative need medical services for a serious ailment supports ZANU PF after that. Unfortunately, many realize this after the fact.

Can South Africa intervene in Zimbabwe? To those who claim South Africa has not done enough on Zimbabwe, can they please articulate what enough would look like? From my vantage point, SA has done more than enough. It has carried the diplomatic burden, absorbed the economic refugees, lived with the spillover and still gets spoken of as if Pretoria has some magic lever it refuses to pull. Intervention does not remain trapped in communiqués forever. The spectrum eventually becomes force. It becomes sanctions, blockades, troops, money and very often unintended consequences. Zimbabwe tried this intervention thing in the DRC and ended up in an endless and vacuous war. Bonyongwe’s book says it cost billions in Military costs and helped push the economy towards collapse. DRC, 26 years later is still unresolved. Only America can afford these unintended consequences certainly not SA and its fragile economy. Economic sanctions by South Africa would hurt SA and Zimbabwe itself. They would disrupt trade, punish ordinary people and send even more economic refugees south. SA has worked through SADC. It helped engineer the GNU that gave Zimbabwe economic stability and growth. SADC and the Commonwealth have been scathing about our elections. Did that change anything? Even the AfDB debt and arrears process, championed by Adesina and Chissano as facilitator, has dragged on through endless structured dialogue, platforms and roadmaps, with no decisive breakthrough. AfDB itself was still calling for “more effort” in April 2025 after two years of that process. The harder truth is that Zimbabwe’s crisis cannot be outsourced to Pretoria. A neighbour can mediate, absorb pressure and plead. It cannot become the substitute government of another sovereign country. South Africa has done enough. Those who say otherwise must tell us what they actually want done, how far they are willing to go and who they expect to pay the price.

Statistically, white men are more likely to kill their wives, children, and family members. Most Black people are brainwashed to think being with them is an advancement in life. We are willfully blind to their true nature.
