What happens in the Middle East will not stay there. Oil exports from key Gulf producers have fallen sharply, while the risk of further military action is rising. Every +10% in oil adds ~7–8 cents to fuel prices in Lithuania.

The release of political prisoners must be accompanied by agreements that strengthen regional security. Without that, the region is not safer.

The release of political prisoners in Belarus is welcome, but it does not change Lukashenko’s regime. Minsk still supports Russia’s war and deepens ties with Moscow, Tehran, Beijing. Hostage diplomacy must not lead to sanctions relief — this looks like concessions to a dictator.

Nearly half of Iran’s missiles targeted the UAE, not Israel. Given the Emirates’ role as a hub for sanctions-bypassing trade, the strikes look more like political messaging than battlefield logic.

March 11 reminds us that courage, unity and belief in Lithuania restored our independence and the right to decide our own future. Freedom is precious. Let us protect it and continue building a strong and secure Lithuania. 🇱🇹

If Russian GRU operatives are working in Budapest ahead of Hungary’s elections, it shows how valuable Viktor Orbán is for the Kremlin – as an ally against Ukraine and a tool to disrupt EU support for Kyiv.

After recent strikes on Iran’s military infrastructure, Tehran’s response appears to be weakening. Ammunition stocks may be shrinking, but the question is how much of its military-industrial capacity has actually been degraded.

Iran’s theocracy works less like a normal state and more like a closed “family” system. Power and wealth stay in the hands of a small inner circle. Behind the religious rhetoric operate shadow oil trade, arms deals and support for militant groups across the region.

For four years now, Ukraine has been defending its independence and helping safeguard freedom in Europe. We cannot grow used to this war or tire of standing with Ukraine. 🇺🇦 #SlavaUkraini

After the U.S. Supreme Court struck down most of Trump’s emergency tariffs, markets reacted calmly. The White House pledged to reintroduce similar measures through other legal tools. The courts set limits—but the political fight over tariffs is far from over.

Happy State Restoration Day, Lithuanians! 🇱🇹 Our values are not for sale — they must always be defended. Choosing light means choosing a difficult path, one that demands strength, courage, and wisdom. May we always have the strength to choose it.

A Ukrainian is disqualified for wearing pictures of murdered Russian athletes on his helmet, while United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres is not disqualified for sending a congratulatory message to Iran on the anniversary of the Islamic Revolution?

U.S. Congress approved $200m for the Baltic Security Initiative. While lower than in 2024, the funding remains important for sustaining the transatlantic partnership.

Gold prices have benefited Russia. Since February 2022, the value of its gold reserves has increased by over $216bn. As oil revenues no longer suffice, military spending is set to exceed 100% of oil and gas income by 2026. Gold is becoming part of the war’s financing.

CSIS estimates up to 1.2 million Russian casualties in Ukraine. In return, since 2024 territorial gains average 15–70 metres per day. The cost-to-outcome ratio speaks clearly: an endless war driven not by strategy, but by Putin’s desire to destroy the Ukrainian state.

As someone who has spent 20 years collecting historical material about Soviet crimes against humanity and war crimes, I can say that the most important thing here is not to delay, to collect testimonies while there is someone to testify.

Today, the EU provided the first €10 million for a new Special Tribunal to prosecute Russian leaders for their role in Moscow’s war against Ukraine. Russia’s leaders are responsible for this war, and they must be held accountable. There can be no impunity. A pleasure to discuss with @alain_berset and sign the contract with the Council of Europe

Amid intense debates about economic power, outcomes matter. Over the past year, Canada delivered ~36.5% total stock market returns — ahead of the United States (~17.3%) and key European allies. Stability remains a strategic asset.

Inviting Vladimir Putin to a Board of Peace on Gaza raises an unavoidable question: How can someone waging a brutal war against Ukraine be entrusted with any role in peace elsewhere?

Quick strikes create headlines – sustained pressure creates outcomes. Today’s regimes survive on shadow fleets, hidden cash, and protected logistics. Break the supply chains, and power starts to crack.
