@JayNDonde@marcowenjones What a foolish response. The argument should be obvious to you: only immediate existential stakes—such as in a large-scale conflict between peer powers—would justify this scale of attack.
@a_cool_bug@marcowenjones I’m sure the residents of Dresden exclaimed in relief, in their final moments before being engulfed in flames, “At least this is a peer-to-peer conflict!”
ITV pulling zero punches in this incredible footage - "This landscape of destruction looks otherworldy, but it's not, it's this world - What is happening may come to define one of its darkest eras, one that casts a stain on humanity, which will endure for generations" #Gaza
@JayNDonde@marcowenjones The only time such destruction can be justified is during a conflict between peer military powers. Simply saying "this is what urban warfare looks like" is a thought-terminating cliche, a cynical debate trick from someone who could not care less about the civilian population.
Every sane person is moved by innocent Gazans' suffering, and its understandable to be shocked by images like these. But if you are shocked, that says a great deal more about your ignorance regarding what urban warfare looks like than it does about the normative dimensions of this conflict. As I noted above, practically all civilian infrastructure in parts of Gaza (particularly Rafah) was repurposed for military use. Every sane person understands that the infrastructure then becomes a legitimate military target -- the alternative would be a legal regime under which the side that is most willing to and successful in delivering ordinance from its own population centers wins every war. Here is a photo taken after the coalition bombing of Mosul for comparison. Yes, war is terrible and oftentimes, even in the "cleanest" wars, entire cities are decimated. If this is a shock to you, please read more books and spend less time on X.
Youtube decided to Re-monetize my channel today. I'd like to thank everyone who helped me get through this. More videos on lost media & anime that only exist as magazine articles coming up soon. Maybe I'll even start some new channels for bonus content?
