Long-term success for experienced multilingual learners: don’t reduce the rigor!! Make expectations clear, identify language demands, scaffold for comprehensible input and academic output. Thank you @TanKHuynh & @easkelton for your passion & ideas. @CorwinPress

Our strength as a nation rests in our diversity - including our linguistic diversity. Leveraging that strength requires ensuring every student becomes a powerful reader, writer, and thinker. - Zaretta Hammond @Ready4rigor #LiteracyIsLiberation @GIPublicSchools

Powerful! Thank you for sharing @drbrittneybills. ALL students. “But if we don’t name it, call it out for what it is and show up in solidarity..” to do what’s right, socially just & to not overlook the power of literacy!

I took the time this morning to watch The Right to Read Documentary. I compel everyone who sees this to take one hour to watch this documentary. "If we are not tackling literacy, we're wasting time." #LiteracyIsLiberation therighttoreadfilm.org

@GIPublicSchools Loved Amelia Bedelia and all of her antics! Little House on the Prairie was also a favorite imagining life as a pioneer girl.

🌍 Dr. Vαℓєηтιηα Gσηzαℓєz ♥️🙌🏽@ValentinaESL

Worldwide over 7000 languages are spoken. While linguistic diversity is valued by many countries in the world, 40% of these languages are endangered. Many ESL and bilingual teachers are left to wonder how they can support linguistic diversity and empower multilingual learners with the gifts of their languages. We can have a great impact on our students and their families by increasing their confidence and self-esteem and their language identities. The small and big things we do each day convey messages about languages. • label the walls in languages students speak • provide books in many languages • offer guest speakers and readers in languages other than English only • learn words in the languages students speak • listen to students read in the languages they can •invite students to write in the languages they can • show genuine interest, and excitement around languages • give students space, and time to talk with same language peers The fact is that when language is ignored, there may be a danger of limiting participation and cutting off valuable resources. Every child deserves to be seen, heard, and valued for who they are fully and completely. valentinaesl.com/articles-for-e… #motherlanguageday #englishlanguage #teachingenglish #teachingresources #teachingideas #teachingkids #bilingual_kids #multilingualkids #language #teachers #diversity #students
