The market has recognized what we have been calling for for 18 months........that is....the combination of multiple Technology innovation cycles hitting along with the recent Geopolitical tidal wave. The impact of this new US Administration's deregulation infused by the addition of the best of Silicon Valley to the braintrust cannot be understated. So, how does this Tech cycle compare to the 1990's Tech run? We may be in the early to mid innings. On a return basis this compares to where we were in late 1997 to early 1998. Interestingly, the Nasdaq rose more than 460% from the day in 1994 that Netscape was released until the top in Y2000, but the Nasdaq has risen "only" +78% from 2022 - present (the day ChatGPT was released). So, let’s take a walk down memory lane. The “Internet” had its’ “ChatGPT” like moment sometime between April 30, 1993 and Oct 14, 1994. That is when CERN announced that the World Wide Web would be freely available to everyone and then when Netscape released it’s Mosaic Web Browser. Key points about these momentous events include: 1. The announcement was made through an internal CERN document addressed “to whom it may concern,” signed by Walter Hoogland and Helmut Weber, who were the Director of Research and Director of Administration at CERN, respectively. 2. CERN relinquished all intellectual property rights to the World Wide Web code, allowing anyone to use, duplicate, modify, and redistribute it without any fees. 3. This release made it possible for developers to create servers and clients independently and add extensions without licensing restrictions. This public release of the World Wide Web is widely recognized as the catalyst that allowed the internet to grow into the ubiquitous and essential tool it is today, fundamentally altering how we communicate, work, and access information globally. but the next “more obvious” moment in the commercialization of the internet came in 1995. This year marked several significant events that made the internet’s potential for commerce and widespread public use much more apparent: 1. The launch of major e-commerce platforms: • Amazon.com opened its virtual doors. • eBay (initially called AuctionWeb) started its online auction service. 2. Expansion of internet access: • Compuserve, America Online (AOL), and Prodigy began providing internet access to the general public. • The original NSFNET backbone was decommissioned, completing the internet’s transformation to a commercial enterprise. 3. Browser developments: • Netscape Communications released its commercial web browser October 13, 1994 • Microsoft created a web browser for Windows 95. So, if we then compare NASDAQ returns from that period on vs today, here are some interesting datapoints (see chart) What does this tell us? It says that while we think the recent run is a bit overdone and is pricing in the impact of the new Political Administration, it does not price in the long run impact of the AI+Robotics+Cloud+Autonomy+NewSpace/Defense/Industrial tsunami and the resulting productivity boom ahead of us. We continue to think we have a long run ahead of constructive investment developments that is likely to last through 2030….more to come $tsla $nvda #artificalintelligence #StocksToWatch

Consistency is the key to progress. However if you want a better or different progression, then you need a better or different type of consistency.

Success can be one of the largest hurtles to incremental innovation. And the endless drumbeat of daily tasks can interrupt the mental state required for higher level thought.
