@RonaldLamola What is the timeline that you agreed on finding these common and sustainable solutions?

Today, I held a telephone conversation with Her Excellency Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, the newly appointed Minister of Foreign Affairs of Nigeria.
I congratulated her on her appointment and reaffirmed the longstanding cordial relations between our countries.
We agreed to further solidify our bilateral ties and deepen cooperation across all areas, including people-to-people relations.
Additionally, we reflected on the challenges posed by irregular migration and committed to working to address the root causes, find common and sustainable solutions to this shared concern.

A long post.
Thoughts ✍🏽 on a field I am passionate about, have studied and am a professional.
Thoughts about an issue I have gone on and on and on about: the need for government start, although extremely late - crafting tech policy and legislation.
I was so happy that we were finally at public comments stage.
And now. And now I am so disappointed, man. So disappointed. I should be angry but I am disappointed. I was so excited. Happy. Planned to read it this weekend.
I could cry from the frustration and disappointment.
But I am also deeply offended on behalf of the South African public. Presumably using AI determine our country’s policy? Asking ChatGPT and friends to decide what the policy should be for South Africa? I beg your finest most
audacious pardon. For abonani? Nis’ jwayela kabi, mncwi nasi.
This will become a global story about the pitfalls of AI. We are going to be a laughing stock. “South African goverment used AI to draft AI policy.” Remember the Deloitte AI scandal. Also the narrative ammo given to our adversaries at a time we are under heavy attack? Backfoot again.
Now I’m not some traditionalist purist and against AI use in writing. It is a productivity tool. Use it. It has its advantages, but also has numerous pitfalls. Sparingly. Carefully. AI can be used as a writing aid. Aid. Not the replace human writing, improve it. I use it to proofread. I think faster than I write. You can also use it to aid in academic research. Aid. It does not replace good ol’ desktop research and reading every single journal article etc. as has always been the case. Neither does it replace Jstor, et al. You must do both.
That draft must be withdrawn. Akukho okunye. It is an insult to the public to be excepted to still submit public comments on it. I'm not reading AI slop. Take it back.
A mea culpa is needed too.
Part of the due diligence in the AI era is checking for an over reliance on AI. Where was that? The Department and the Ministry failed to do this. Some junior staffer cannot be blamed for the lack of due diligence from both.
But that is the problem isn’t it? Being completely out of touch and little knowledge, if any about the digital age we live in. Every student, professional, layperson knows these days to check for AI. Why was that not done? Why? Again. It is a failure from both Department Head and Ministry.
Anyway. I’m going to go and enjoy my day and shelve this as yet another example of the tech illiteracy of government. Why can’t we have nice things? We are good people dammit, treat us with respect. Do better by us. Good Lord in heaven. My God.

The SIU strikes again, this time, at the Special Tribunal. R85 million. A fake joint venture. A fraudulent B-BBEE certificate. And only 166 metres of wall to show for it.
The Special Tribunal just set aside the entire tender — and officials have 30 days to face disciplinary action. 👀

There is no apartheid in Ghana or anywhere else on this continent. Supporting South Africa’s struggle was an act of African solidarity, not a favour to be weaponised years later.
Using that history to justify present-day displacement or to guilt-trip nations is something we should reject outright. Forcing people out of their homes is wrong, full stop.
Leadership also means accountability. When that is absent, so too is credibility.
