as predicted, had a hard time sleeping last night. had a lot of dreams about Google I/O - one of them looked something like this. i wonder if it was some sort of message? whatever could this mean..
@nicdunz Al is a man with a tough exterior, he is someone who has had a tough life
Yet he is soft inside, and is seeking redemption
His role model is gone, and he is not amused
Spinning into infinity, he can see the angels

@somewheresy I remember in the mid-2000s, our HS computer teachers showing us graphs about computing power growth, & the singularity. It felt a little sci-fi at the time, but I distinctly remember 2030-2040 being framed as major inflection points. Maybe we’re just slightly ahead of schedule.
I was aware of the philosophy behind The Singularity when I was like 12. It was something I kept in the back of my mind while navigating every job I ever had and why I always wanted to eventually work somewhere in software and hardware. So when people act surprised, I’m like, how
@childofgoddess2@Thomasdelvasto_ to me this depends on the frequency of the ask, and impulsivity/timeline.
"I decided I want this 30 minutes ago. go buy it after work!!"
vs. "hey I think I want this, think you could get it for me sometime in the next month or two?"
should always be some room for fun $$ imo!
@nicdunz@sama OpenAI / Nintendo collab in the works? a pokemon game where each pokemon / NPC is agentically driven and can respond dynamically to player actions would be super cool.
or animal crossing with agents as villagers!
after this week has finished x will be flooded with articles about how everything is going to change.
three huge leaps from openai, google, and anthropic. it will become undeniable that we are in a hard, fast, steep af take off.
and a polite reminder, these jumps used to take 2-3 years.
then two to three months. now every month. and soon, step change improvements every week/day.
the singularity is around the corner. if you don’t believe, you’ll soon see.
@MegaBasedChad perk of living near a few colleges: lots of bright, motivated teens and twenty-somethings who are headed toward good careers, but just need a job while they’re in school.
feels like fast food, coffee shops, etc. on that side of town have better service because of it, imo.
Underrated impact of the Big Sort; There are no smart people in dumb jobs anymore. When was the last time you spoke with a functionally literate service worker?
@vladileshko@kaimicahmills@VitalistBay@IanHuyett Very interesting read! It also led me to discover a couple books I want to check out - The Phenomenon of Man by Chardin and The Philosophy of the Common Task by Nikolai Fyodorov. Feels like it’s going to be a fascinating deep dive. Thanks!
@BigManHimbo1423@Michaeldudufudu It did! I didn’t take a picture or anything because that would be creepy lol
“Hello, can you please repeat your conversation while I record so I can prove this to random internet strangers? Thank you!”
As with any internet anecdote, feel free to take it or leave it haha 😁
@vladileshko@kaimicahmills@VitalistBay Not saying it _will_ work that way. There may be false hope mixed in too. But being certain that “my interpretation of scripture means I KNOW how God MUST accomplish restoration” is the same kind of certainty that caused many people to miss Jesus when He actually arrived.
@vladileshko@kaimicahmills@VitalistBay For Christians, if your first reaction is “this is evil” or “this is playing God,” it may be worth remembering that Jesus Himself defied many expectations of what God’s restoration would look like.
Resurrection and the new heaven/earth _could_ arrive in ways we don’t expect.
