@divtacular @jonnadraws @RNIB I am aware users are generally unwilling to be considerate or unaware of their impact. But you were complaining about screen readers — and blaming them. I provided you details on why that is also not a solution.

@aardrian @jonnadraws @RNIB I'm not complaining. I've no skin in the game. I hope the software catches up because you're still missing the elephant and I've run out of ways of highlighting this to you: You will never make users be sensitive to an issue they likely won't ever be exposed to.

@divtacular @jonnadraws @RNIB They don’t refuse. I can point to examples, such as: github.com/nvaccess/nvda/… But I don't believe you read the post or you might acknowledge that some uses cannot be parsed — such as the examples I included. Easy to complain, harder to contribute.

@aardrian @jonnadraws @RNIB Screen readers refuse to parse the real-world language and vernacular of social media user cases, a language their own users would be exposed to and appreciate. It's time they modernised. You are never going to convince a hordes of normal users to solve this.

@jonnadraws @RNIB If they can't adapt to the fast moving memes and tropes of social media language they're doing their users a disservice. It's unrealistic to expect users to self moderate their use of language for a use case they have zero understanding of

The problem isn't emoji, it's outdated screen reader software. The emoji here aren't just for decoration. They're a prosodic feature that communicate attitude and emotion, mirroring offline modes of speech. This issue has been on my radar for a while and I have ideas on how to improve it.

@FrancescaMarano @RianRietveld @karlgroves Yes. Does that mean you used an automated checker? Because if so, those can only catch about 25% of WCAG issues. Separately, he seemed to take my feedback seriously so I am assuming / hoping that he went back and addressed at least the most obvious issues.

@RianRietveld @FrancescaMarano @karlgroves When I first stumbled across the site last year I saw a handful of WCAG violations and dismissed it without reading more. To the founder’s credit, he approached me at CSUNATC to try to get my feedback on their offering. I declined but did explain why I had dismissed them.
