I am making this post at the risk of sounding immodest. But it is what it is. altruism /ˈaltrʊɪz(ə)m/ _Altruism is the unselfish concern for the welfare of others, characterized by actions that benefit someone else without expectation of personal reward or gain. It involves prioritizing others' needs, often requiring personal sacrifice of time, energy, or resources_ . My work with young people has been misunderstood many times by folks who find it implausible that anyone could be altruistic, especially not in a difficult terrain as Nigeria's. We throw around phrases like " there's really no free lunch." I completely agree with thought. I equally agree with the truth that sometimes, it's okay if someone else pays for lunch. The world is driven by the two forces of altruism or egoism. Every great nation on earth had the good fortune of being founded or steered at some point by altruistic leaders. Any nation that fails does so because they are led by egomaniacs. Period! The character we vilify at the individual or micro levels we can not honestly expect to harvest at the national level. Altruism does not preclude the need for people to have lofty ambitions for themselves. Nay rather, by all means, stretch your imagination to the furtherest bounds of the ethereal. But hold in your heart the noble dream that in your success, others will find the springboard to fulfill their highest potential. In other words , "shine for all". I have thus, simplified the framework for your decision-making . In your contract decisions, in whom you choose as leaders at all levels, in your relationships, in what causes you support, what are you rewarding? Altruism or Egoism ? I made my choice .
