Ambassador Hunt was very pleased to attend the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the Government of Sierra Leone and U.S.-company Acrow for the long-awaited financing and construction of the Lungi Bridge on a build-own-operate-transfer model. With more than 70-years of experience building bridges in over 150 countries — including more than 40 countries in Africa — Acrow will bring the best in American technology, engineering, and project management to this critical infrastructure investment. The United States government stands ready to ensure that this partnership is a commercial success for both of our countries.

A Reflection on the Removal of Lara Taylor-Pearce and Tamba Momoh Let it go on record that the allegations of professional misconduct levelled against Lara Taylor-Pearce and one of her deputies, Tamba Momoh, culminating in their removal, were not rooted in a genuine commitment to upholding ethics or professional conduct. On the contrary, the decision underscores a troubling pattern in which accountability is selectively enforced. We have witnessed clear instances of misconduct by high-ranking officials, such as the Anti-Corruption Commissioner’s role in the SLBA elections in Kenema, captured on camera, and Paran Umar Tarawally’s abuse of office. Furthermore, the former Chief Justice, Babatunde Edwards, despite allegations of abuse of authority, was not held accountable but rather rewarded with an ambassadorial appointment to the Republic of Ireland. This glaring inconsistency, where some are shielded from scrutiny while others are subjected to severe consequences, has reinforced the perception that the law does not apply equitably in Sierra Leone. The removal of Taylor-Pearce and Momoh sends a troubling message - there is little room in governance for individuals who are steadfast in their commitment to upholding the highest ethical and professional standards. As a society, we must reflect on what this means for our democratic values and the integrity of our institutions.

Contrary to Government Propaganda, #MoIbrahimIndex on governance in Sierra Leone is not too good. The index which rated governance in Africa revealed that there has been stagnation of over all governance in the continent from 2014 to 2024 Overall Governance in Sierra Leone is better than 2014 but there has been slow improvement of governance since 2019, the Index said. Although Sierra Leone is rated 23 in the Index, South Sudan which is rated 54 is described as making progress on governance than Sierra Leone on over all governance since 2019. Details on the indicators in subsequent editions @Mo_IbrahimFdn @PresidentBio @WorldBankAfrica @Cee_Bah @FrancisKaifala @accsierraleone @MoiceComm @dsengeh

Once rivals for the SLBA Presidency, now united as allies in the face of shared challenges. A reminder that resilience and unity often emerge strongest when circumstances push people to the edge. Congratulations to The Lawyers’ Society—may it serve as a beacon of peace, unity, and justice for the legal community.

What a remarkable position paper! Given the common perception that APC Parliamentarians often act as a rubber stamp for the ruling SLPP government, their firm stance against the recommendation to remove the Auditor-General and her Deputy is a welcome and significant development. They have spoken on behalf of millions of Sierra Leoneans troubled by the perceived injustice inflicted on these accountability champions. Many have repeatedly called on the President to reinstate them. Imagine the impact if SLPP Parliamentarians joined this call, urging His Excellency to reconsider the recommendation for removal. Such a united front would send a watershed message to the executive: even in politics, there are lines that must never be crossed. When these lines blur, we risk losing not only our democracy but also our fundamental right to demand accountability from our leaders, now and under future governments. This is a rare, opportune moment for APC and SLPP Parliamentarians to come together to revive the soul of our democracy. This is not about party rivalry; it’s about safeguarding the integrity and independence of our institutions—for the good of all Sierra Leoneans. Let’s rise above politics.

The matter involving Lebanese #JihadBasma and British #BenjaminMarrer on the alleged 265 Carat Diamond Theft is actually exposing the Sierra Leone Justice System. Local News revealed that that Justice Alhaji Momoh Jah Stevens JA finally granted bail to the Lebanese #JihadBasma and two others. The report revealed that bail was granted on an instruction from above and that the decision to grant bail to #JihadBasma and the two others happened behind closed doors in the chambers of the Judge. Where as ordinary Sierra Leoneans are languishing in detention for minor crimes, the judiciary has decided to dish bail to #JihadBasma and others on an instruction from above A pro-government newspaper earlier implicated @PresidentBio, pointing out that the President decided to set up a mediation team led by one Paramount Chief from Kono while the matter is still in court, thereby undermining the independence of the judiciary. Rumors of compromise are going around the Lebanese Community in Freetown, indicating that certain individuals in @oagmoj2023 and the Judiciary may have been compromised. @Keketoma_Sandi @UKinSierraLeone @HishamMackie @BBCNews

Veteran Politician and elder of the main opposition All People Congress or #APC, Hon Ibrahim Ben Kargbo said that there are about 19 candidates who want to contest for Presidency of Sierra Leone on the ticket of the #APC. He explained this time around they are going to prune people because in his words, “presidency is a serious business.” This statement came at a time when supporters of the former leader and Flagbearer of the Party, @samurakamara201 still believe that he (Samura Kamara) will be installed in December but IB kargbo said that he is too educated to believe such. @ecowas_cedeao @USEmbFreetown @UNSierraLeone @UKinSierraLeone @EUinSierraLeone

It looks like the Freetown Cable Car Project will become a reality before the Lungi Bridge. 😎 Meanwhile, a friend who just returned to Freetown from a long vacation in London is telling me how mosquitoes are biting him endlessly.

I was really pleased to present the Freetown Cable Car Feasibility Study report to Vice President H.E. Dr. Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh this morning. Conducted over a 24 month period, the detailed multidimensional Feasibility Study was funded by @c40cities Finance Facility which in turn is funded by the German, French, United Kingdom and United States governments. Implementation of the Feasibility Study was led by @giz_gmbh with teams based in Germany and Freetown, collaborating closely with the @FCC_Freetown City Council. #TransformFreetown #TransformingLives #GreenMobility
