So. Our debut album is out tonight.
We’re writing this on the bus, on the road to Manchester, thinking about everything this band has been through over the years. The highs, the lows, and everything in between.
We played our first show together in 2018 with genuinely no idea where it would go. We were just a bunch of mates making music and playing any show we could get. Most of the time it was to empty rooms, with no expectations of it becoming anything more than what it was. We even did some of those gigs for £1 a ticket because we didnt think we were worth more than that. We just did it for the love of it, but always dreamt of something bigger.
After a year of slogging through countless small venues around the UK, we were lucky enough to put on our biggest-ever headline show at Scala in London in 2019. To this day, it remains one of the best moments of our lives. It felt like we’d peaked right there and then.
Covid happened.
We all went back to our day jobs. Tommy was painting and decorating, Marcus was delivering packages, Clem was working in a studio (the lucky one), and Andy was gardening. We spent this time writing as much music as we could, but across countless four-way calls squeezed between work, morale steadily dropped. We never thought we’d play another show. Still, we did it for the love of it, and still we dreamt of something bigger.
We were handed an opportunity of a lifetime and toured Europe with LT. We went into it not really knowing what would happen, but grateful for one last chance to try and make our dreams a reality. Every show felt like a final hurrah, counting down the days until it would all come to a halt.
But something funny happened. The shows we announced kept selling out, kept being upgraded, and people started singing the songs back. We couldn’t fathom what was happening. We announced our debut headline tour, and suddenly this band of four best mates had begun turning into that dream we’d longed for since being kids.
We spent the next few years relentlessly writing and producing music, touring Europe and America, and trying to figure out who we wanted to be and what we wanted to say. We never wanted to rush into a debut album, and we’re honestly so glad we didn’t make that choice, because we’ve ended up with an album we’re incredibly proud of.
Not only is the music where we want it to be, but the messaging that runs through the DNA of the album is true to our journey, not just as a band, but as people. We never wanted to regret the things that shaped us, because they’ve brought us to where we are now.
The hours spent in a van up and down the country playing shows to no one. The best days and the worst nights. Broken friendships. Failed relationships. The mistakes made and the lessons learned. But we were all in it together, and there’s comfort in knowing none of us would change a thing.
And I’d Do It Again is a reminder that we wouldn’t be here without any of it, and that it’s shaped us into who we are today. Up until now this has been our story, but now we hope you can find yours within it too. To never regret the things that made you who you are today.
We’ve put everything into this record, and we’d do it again.
Forever, your little band,
Tommy, Marcus, Andy and Clem x
